Coal more expensive

Renewable energy industry can almost do without subsidy

The moment when sustainable energy can be done without government subsidies is within reach. So says Lars Christian Lilleholt, the Danish energy minister.

In a few years, the renewable energy industry will no longer need government subsidies. "We're almost there," Lilleholt said in a Bloomberg interview this week Sustainable Business is based.

Earlier this month it was announced that the German energy company EnBW had won a tender for the realization of the offshore 'He Dreiht' wind farm on the German coast. The wind farm is the world's first offshore wind farm to be realized without government subsidy.

Coal no longer cheaper than renewable energy sources

Dong Energy also won 3 bids for offshore wind farms. 2 of these wind farms will also be realized without government subsidy.

Renewable energy
Lilleholt argues that Denmark demonstrates that coal is no longer cheaper than renewable energy sources. For example, Denmark is the homeland of Vestas and Dong Energy: the world's largest producer of wind turbines and the world's largest operator of offshore wind farms respectively.

The Danish minister expects sustainable energy sources to become increasingly attractive. 'Everything indicates that technology will ensure that sustainable energy becomes increasingly competitive. Last year, the question was whether the costs for sustainable energy could ever be so low that government subsidies are no longer necessary. Now the expectation is that we will reach this point quite soon.'

Denmark
Denmark has set itself the goal of using only renewable energy from 2050. By 2030, 50 percent of the total energy requirement must already come from renewable energy sources.

When tendering, they assume that electricity from coal will be taxed more, which is a new way of saying that the mills will not receive a subsidy. The construction and maintenance of the power cable is not included in the calculation, at Tennet a cable recently cost 11 billion, and usually there are other subsidies for the purchase of the turbines. Then there is always a backup, fossil, to be built in case the mills stand still, madness! In a few years there will be energy from thorium, just wait for that.

Power from wind turbines no longer needs a subsidy, but banks, companies and the national government are conspiring to milk households.
Electricity from a wind farm on land costs only 2 cents per kWh, according to the ECN SDE tariff recommendations.
But the approach of wind farm slum landlords adds a few cents to that, because they still receive SDE subsidy for it.

Only if households buy a lot of wind farm for sale, they have their electricity for that 2 cents, because then they are the owners themselves.
It is therefore better for farmers to build a wind farm together with households, so that they can charge a somewhat higher land fee from the households that they help with affordable electricity. Without subsidy

Have you had a blow with a windmill blade Henk? Why then is 1 billion euros going to the park outside the dikes in the Noordoostpolder, and then the construction of the cable has not yet been included. Even the final cost of the last park tendered out in the North Sea, the final electricity price will be close to 12 cents, the current electricity price is 3 cents.

When you read the article and study the accompanying picture, you will discover that sustainable people from Brabant cannot calculate. It's a shame because it misleads a lot of people. The 2 cents being talked about are just the debits. And in 25 years! So you just lose this money as a private person. On top of that are the fixed costs and maintenance.
