The diesel price has risen sharply in the past month and thus followed the oil price. The price for 1 barrel of Brent oil is now well above $70 a barrel, the highest level since late 2014. It is no cause for rejoicing among fuel users, as the price at the pump is also steadily rising.
The basic price for diesel is currently €0,99 per liter (for delivery of 4.000 liters from purchasing collective Farmers4all). So there is a clear increase. The price was still €0,94 per liter in mid-March and last year the diesel price was almost €0,09 cheaper in April.
Industry organization Cumela also sees that the price of diesel is rising sharply. Using data from various suppliers, Cumela arrives at a price (white diesel) of approximately €1,07 per liter (excluding VAT). A month earlier that was still €1,05 per liter. However, this does not involve large quantities.
Not extreme yet
The diesel price is therefore at the highest level since 2015, according to Cumela. Nevertheless, Maurice Steinbusch, secretary of agricultural contract work at Cumela, says that the price is not extremely high compared to other years. "However, the price increase is annoying, because it costs the farmer a lot of extra money."
Continued economic growth is one of the reasons for the rising price. The agreement by OPEC countries to reduce supplies also plays a role and the increased oil production in the US cannot compensate for this reduced supply.
The oil price is expected to continue to rise in the near future Saudi Arabia wants to push the oil price towards $80 per barrel.
