Tuesday, December 18, the second edition of the National Economic Agricultural Congress of Boerenbusiness organized in Flint in Amersfoort. The second edition was considered a great success.
The theme was: 'the economic health of the agricultural sector and the future sustainable revenue model'. The focus was mainly on the changing agricultural landscape. The most important themes were communication to consumers and sustainable agriculture. Day chairmen Femke Wolthuis and Eric Bergsma created a light-hearted atmosphere between the serious subjects.
Multiple speakers
Cor Pierik (CBS) and Linda deBee (Wageningen University & Research) kicked off the conference and mainly discussed the figures about the sector. Pierik reported that the medium-sized farmers are in dire straits. De Bie further elaborated on the income estimate, which was announced on Tuesday, December 18.
After these 2 speakers there was time for a break. A TED talk was held there by Jeen Nijboer (Rabobank). In this he discussed Rabobank's Global Farmers Platform. Then it was time for the last 2 speakers: Hide Boersma (science journalist) and Jaap van Duin (economist). They made the audience think about the relationship between nature and agriculture and about global economic trends.
