Chemicals group Bayer plans to cut 12.000 jobs, which is 10% of its total workforce. This is reported by the German business newspaper Handelsblatt.
The newspaper write that around 4.500 jobs are at risk in Germany. Bayer in Germany currently employs a total of just over 32.000 people. It is also unknown to what extent the 1.200 people who work for Bayer in the Netherlands are affected by this.
Improve profitability
The board of the chemical group is expected to inform the staff by means of a letter on Tuesday 9 April. Bayer hopes to improve profitability to offset the costs of its 2018 acquisition of Monsanto.
