The turnover of Voergroep Zuid decreased in 2018, which according to the feed company is mainly due to lower sales of feed and raw materials. However, the profit remained virtually the same as in 2018, and the customer base has also grown.
De animal feed producer saw 2018 revenue fall by more than €40 million to €213 million. The operating result (operating profit) amounted to €1,17 million in that year, which is stable compared to 2017.
Growing customer base
Voergroep Zuid did see an increase in its customer base in 2018. The company now has 882 members, 33 more than at the beginning of last year. This growth was mainly in the poultry and goat sectors. In the pig sector and in the cattle sector, the customer base remained virtually the same. Total sales of feed and raw materials decreased by 2018% in 6,6 to 736.000 tons.
It is striking that this sales have decreased, because the company has more members. "This is mainly due to the fact that a number of pig farmers have stopped. These farmers no longer purchase feed from a certain point in time, but they do remain a member. The membership cannot be terminated immediately," says Jeanne van Nunen, the spokesperson at Voergroep Zuid, know. About half of all members of Voergroep Zuid are pig farmers, which means that as a collective they have the greatest impact on sales figures.
Other business
However, the profit suffered little or not at all from the drop in sales. This is mainly because Feed Group South has increased the gross margin on the feed and raw materials. In addition, the cooperative reports that the financial services (Zuiderhuis) achieved a good result in 2018. Voergroep Zuid also has stores, including 7 Welkoop branches. The results of these stores were somewhat disappointing, mainly because they were not easily accessible.
