At the fourth opening of the Young Farmers scheme, more than 700 farmers applied for a subsidy. This concerns a total amount of €12,9 million. The applications are now being assessed.
The 'Young Farmers' scheme has 27 categories that contribute to sustainability on the farm: from various machines for spading and sowing to the mechanical manure separation installations and cow mattresses. During the fourth opening, 741 young farmers applied for the subsidy, for an amount of €12,9 million. In 2018, the most subsidy was requested for the installation of solar panels, followed by electric vehicles and low-emission floors in second and third place.
There are this year considerably more grant applications submitted than in previous years. In March 2016, 422 young farmers applied for the subsidy, for a total amount of €7,2 million. In December 2016, 250 farmers (€4,2 million) were involved. In December 2017, the number of applications was already higher, but it still does not come close to December 2018. In 2017, 577 farmers applied for the subsidy, for an amount of €9,9 million. Incidentally, this is not necessarily surprising, given that farmers have to meet more and more sustainability requirements.
More sustainable countryside
The 'Young Farmers' scheme should contribute to a more vital and above all more sustainable countryside. The subsidy is intended for young farmers under the age of 41. The subsidy is partly paid by the European Union and partly by the provinces. During the first 3 openings, 1.249 farmers received this subsidy.
