Jeremy Hunt is a candidate for the leadership of the Conservative Party and is also running for the position of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He tells the British media that if it is up to him, £6 billion will be withdrawn from the war coffers to support agriculture and horticulture.
According to Hunt, the support is comparable to that given to banks during the financial crisis. "Farmers and fishermen are facing an uncertain time. We must therefore support them financially," Zo left he know in a speech. His rival Boris Johnson is now talking about wage increases for employees in public sectors.
Farmers skeptical
£6 billion is available for the 'no deal relief programme' (about €6,68 billion). He does not say how this should be divided within the 2 sectors (agriculture and horticulture). That makes many British farmers skeptical about the promise. Hunt says the amount offsets the high import tariffs. This makes the arrangement roughly the same as that of the American president Donald Trump for 'his' farmers in the United States.
Hunt also wants to set up a 'no deal committee'. This must prepare the government for the departure from the European Union on October 31. He says he does not like to take on that task, but it must be done. He also wants to talk to the European Union about the tariffs on the products that the United Kingdom exports.
