Large-scale fraud involving, among other things, organic food

2 July 2019 - Anne Jan Doorn - 9 comments

Interpol recently withdrew a large amount of food from the market due to fraudulent practices. The value of the food is approximately €100 million. Fraud with organic food has also been taken into account for the first time.

Research into organic food has been conducted by 16 European Member States, which do not include the Netherlands. Ultimately, about 90.000 tons of organic food was examined. That investigation showed that 470 tons are conventionally grown. Forged documents were used to hide this and in the end 9 people were arrested.

The investigation mainly focused on a Spanish company that sold large quantities of conventionally grown peppers and cucumbers as organic food. The customers mainly came from Germany, Great Britain, France and Denmark.

Expiration date fraud
In addition, it was also discovered that fraud had been committed with, among other things, the best-before date of chicken meat and cheese. Unsanitary storage areas have also been found. Also has Interpol fraudulent practices involving coffee labeled '100% Arabica' and fraud involving 150.000 liters of sunflower oil discovered.

Not very logical after all!

Organic is one big farce. Walking a little better on the backs of other farmers.

if I have read it correctly it is only because it has never been checked that it had not come to light before, strange!!!

This is just the tip of the iceberg.
Anyone who searches well will find and discover that that sector and its environment are not very critical from a commercial point of view.

Now that organic is not organic, there is no alternative for environmental extremists:
they will -when they have principles- die of starvation en masse in about 100 days.

Bet they will live?

It is well known that if you are involved in business with an organic farmer, you have to be careful. In other words, you get screwed right in front of you!

It's a shame that several previous comments are so negative about organic growers.
I read in Anne Jan Doorn's piece that it concerns fraud among traders, who, among other things, "change over" conventional parties to organic.
And suppose that 1 or more organic growers are involved, then you don't have to lump them all together, do you?
After all, the fipronil affair only concerned a small part of the poultry farmers?!

Not the farmer and the farmer's wife, but the sectors after that and that happens so often as soon as it is transported, it is scandalous how the cattle farmer and arable farmer are checked and after that there is certainly no more supervision
