US President Donald Trump threatens additional tariffs on imports of products from the European Union. The list (worth €4 billion) includes cheese, cream, whey concentrate and pork.
The United States already released a list of European goods (worth €21 billion) this spring, which also included cheese from Gouda and Edam. These products are now back on the list, along with frozen ham and pork, fermented milk, milk fats and oils, Italian cheeses and pork cuts such as shoulders.
Aircraft conflict
De extension of the list, which is currently only intended as a threat, arises from the subsidy dispute between the United States and the European Union over the aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing. The United States and the European Union both have cases at the World Trade Organization WTO, in which they accuse each other of improper support for their own aircraft industry.
Whether Trump will actually introduce these higher import tariffs remains to be seen. According to the American president, his country is suffering damage due to the billions in support from the European Union to Airbus. However, according to the European Union, Boeing also receives financial support from Washington. If the United States introduces the high tariffs, the European Union threatens to take countermeasures.
