The Dutch MEPs for the next 5 years were installed on Tuesday 2 July. We see a number of familiar faces in the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, but there is also room for newcomer Bert-Jan Ruissen of the SGP.
Jan Huitema (VVD), Annie Schreijer-Pierik (CDA) and Anja Hazekamp (Party for the Animals) are already well-known Dutch 'heads' in the agricultural committee of the European Parliament. In the next 5 years they will again take up seats on the committee.
In addition, also gets Bert-Jan Ruissen (SGP) assigned the Agriculture portfolio over the next 5 years. He was also granted a deputy membership in the Foreign Affairs and Fisheries Committees. "I am pleased to be able to work on these important portfolios. I look forward to working with colleagues on these professional committees (and beyond) for Dutch sector interests," said Ruissen.
Negotiations
Annie Schreijer-Pierik, who was elected to the European Parliament with just under 114.000 votes, says the parliamentary work and commitment of recent years has paid off. "I am happy that I can again stand up for our family and family farms for another 5 years, especially with a view to the negotiations on the European Common Agricultural Policy from 2021." Schreijer-Pierik is also a member of the Fisheries and International Trade Committees.
Jan Huitema will also return to the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development for the next 5 years. The liberal and dairy farmer from Makkinga, who received almost 116.000 preferential votes in May, let before the elections already know how to make a case for fewer greening rules and more flexibility in the coming period. "I also think it is important that farmers become less dependent on the Brussels income support. They must be able to obtain the income from the market." Huitema will also be assigned the Environment and Fisheries portfolios.
