The British branch of feed group ForFarmers will close the feed factory in Crewe, located in the northwest of England, in the last quarter of this year. Production will be transferred to 3 other nearby locations. The remediation is in line with ForFarmers' efficiency plans.
The idea is to move production from Crewe to the Newcastle-under-Lyme, Selby and Preston sites. According to the company, there is sufficient capacity available there, so that an efficiency improvement can be made. However, this requires a mandatory consultation process with the employees involved in Crewe.
In addition, the employees of the 3 other locations must also be consulted, reports ForFarmers. This is because this may entail organizational changes. ForFarmers has yet to make a decision about the future of the feed factory in Crewe. The current plan could lead to the layoff of approximately 23 employees.
Reduce costs
The feed company, headquartered in Lochem, plans to reduce its operating costs by approximately €3 million over the next 10 years. In the United Kingdom, For Farmers UK 14 production locations. To improve the feed chain, ForFarmers looks at both the modernization of existing factories and the geographical distribution of the factories.
