Schouten is committed to regional and regional products

2 August 2019 - Kimberly Bakker - 3 comments

"The appreciation for regional and regional products must be increased and the sale of these products must be improved," said Minister Carola Schouten (Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality) on Friday 2 August. To achieve this goal, she wants to organize a trade mission in her own country. In addition, restrictive laws and regulations are being tackled.

Schouten registers the Letter to Parliament that it wants to reduce the distance between the producer and the consumer in order to further increase the appreciation for food. That is why the minister is in talks with various supermarkets about a wider range of regional and regional products. She mainly refers to products that are only sold regionally and where the distance between the farmer and the chain (in kilometres) is short. The minister wants to provide insight into whether more regional products end up on the shelf via a benchmark that has yet to be set up.

Promote sales
Another plan of Minister Schouten is to stimulate the sale of these products, so that they can also be sold nationally and/or internationally. To realize this, she is going to organize a trade mission in her own country. The minister notes that small-scale producers are currently encountering problems, such as the legislation and regulations that are mainly intended for large-scale producers.

Schouten wants to map out the various bottlenecks, after which they are tackled. "However, this should not affect food safety," she writes. In addition, a monitor will be set up for the production and sale of regional and regional products. In this way the development can be monitored.

Short chains
Finally, the minister wants to set up various initiatives to improve the bond between farmers and consumers; often with an emphasis on local food and a fair price for the producer. Schouten wants to encourage these so-called short (food) chains by officially recognizing the 'Taskforce Short Chain'.

Cuddle farming. coherent whole of subsidy and propaganda marketing.
Our cooperatives and lenders are fully cooperating with this green bubble, which means that 90% of the sector is in their favour. The right people who are neat, sharp and who take care of the turnover who ensure the wide margins further down the chain.
