Irish slaughterhouses, united in Meat Industry Ireland (MII), met protesting farmers on a first theme last weekend. The organization writes that contracts must be concluded with the livestock farmers and that the livestock must be weighed in advance if the farmer so requests.
However, the representative states that each factory can decide for itself when the weighting will be introduced, depending on operational and logistical considerations. Ultimately, this weighting should ensure that livestock farmers in Ireland can see what the usable percentage (KO percentage) has been.
Sign contracts
The MII also reports that the meat processors must conclude a contract/agreement with livestock farmers. It states, for example, when the sale will take place and what the agreed price is. In the past, much trade was done on the basis of oral agreements, but these were not always fulfilled. The exact details of the contract are determined by the factory and can therefore differ per processor.
Irish livestock farmers are already protesting more than 2 weeks for better agreements in the meat sector. These are the first concessions from the sector.
