Interview Bart Kemp

With long procession of tractors on A12 to The Hague

16 September 2019 - Wouter Baan - 55 comments

On 1 October, the agricultural sector in the Netherlands appears to be flocking to The Hague to protest against social and political criticism. Bart Kemp from Ede, the initiator of the so-called agriculture: "What we want is a revaluation for Dutch farmers."

Was setting up this demonstration a spontaneous action, or have you been doing this for some time?
"It was a spontaneous idea, although I have been bothered for some time by the criticism that farmers have been receiving. The statement by D66 MP Tjeerd de Groot to reduce livestock (as a solution to the nitrogen halve, was the straw that broke the camel's back."

Did you not immediately expect this action from a sheep farmer?
"Make no mistake, because sheep farmers have also been portrayed in the media as environmental polluters. For example, it is said that sheep meat is the most environmentally harmful. In addition, I have many connections with other livestock farmers and arable farmers who also get all kinds of things. farmers are portrayed as animal abusers and environmental polluters. The discussion is mainly fueled by the vegans who throw inaccuracies into the world. Although only 0,5% of the Dutch are vegan, their reach is much wider. It is therefore time for a strong counter voice ."

What kind of action can we expect?
"The intention is to demonstrate on Tuesday 1 October with many tractors and agricultural vehicles in The Hague. We will gather this day in Utrecht and from there we will travel in 1 long procession with tractors and agricultural vehicles over the A12 to The Hague. We aim for a public-friendly action , although some inconvenience is probably unavoidable because we are stretching it en masse."

How many registrations have you received so far?
"I now have 2.250 registrations via the official channel (my WhatsApp). Halving the livestock not only affects the farmer, but also the periphery, with some 10.000 jobs at risk."

Who do you hope to reach and which statement are you going to make?
"Both citizens and politicians. We want citizens to get a revaluation for Dutch food. Agriculture and livestock farming has been practiced since time immemorial. If crop protection products are used, it is for the benefit of society. That needs to be made clearer. In addition, we want politicians to do something about incorrect portrayal in the media. In addition to Minister Carola Schouten (Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality), we will focus on all agricultural spokespersons in the House of Representatives that day. We will try to reach the citizens with a press moment The action is alive I can tell you. I am being called flat by the national media."

Protest action good but for many farmers it is too late.
many have already been forced to stop with new year by government policy and many have already stopped

is never too late, there are still many who continue. it's time to take action

How can you sign up for it we would like to go too

Hey dear people, it's good that there is once again a commotion from those farmers who for years have been regarded by the citizens as the cause of all kinds of disaster. We need to get rid of that The Hague Randstad thinking and those townspeople should feel once again that good and sufficient food for a reasonable price is being coughed up by hardworking farmers with an income per hour worked for which they do not want to work. As co-organizer of the previous tractor campaign and day blockade of the Min. v.Agriculture (at the time of Gerrit Braks) I wish you good luck with this action.

Oh, and Poverbeek...

Contact with the police seems to be going very well!

The only reason we couldn't reach The Hague is that it is already packed with tractors there! haha

good action. Just a note: Please let's keep the slurry at home. This does not work in our favor!
steve 16 September 2019
the police close the a12 just before the hague, and the on and off ramps, and we never get to our destination......
peta 16 September 2019
@steef: that's exactly how it goes, and the organizers are under the stricter supervision of the security services, was no different during the arable actions at the time. So take a good look at where you can get off the highway or use the Trojan horse.
Gerrit 16 September 2019
You have to earn respect, you can't force it to flatten things with big tractors! Just stupid action.
herb 16 September 2019
who do you get respect from?
Gerrit 16 September 2019
Who do you want to enforce it on?

oh man, bring a big loader along with a guardrail, you can also get yourself out of the ground, we'll make the exit ourselves, too, right? we can get back to work like wimps, but then we really won't make it. a dress makes power when we are all together we are powerful if we can't get off we stay on the fast road they let you pass automatically if there are traffic jams throughout the Netherlands do you know what that costs? if the highway day is closed millions take that into account if all of the Netherlands is quiet for a few days we no longer have production rights no more new floors on stables or air washers prices will go up and then everything is possible as long as we do nothing we stay we piss pole and they will piss us in the mouth and marry remain a servant of the government with tail between their legs and tongue out of mouth they will try to take all your capital from your parents and from yourself so long that you have nothing but a mountain of debt what has happened here in recent years is very worrying and we as farmers should always have guarded against it and that is the unity if the prices are bad it is very easy for a company to make different markets and thus save the colleague's bread to get the mouth. and we have all done nothing against that and just let it happen until we are now at the point that no one has no more than water and bread. the large meat processors and cooperatives have played our game and we have lost it so now it is time for them to listen to our game they have earned bread from us now we are going to get bread back and that is only possible with one thing and that is the a firm hand must be put in if we cannot do that or do not do it hard enough it will continue steadily or worse because then they will no longer know they bite, at least keep that in mind in fact, every livestock farmer is obliged to participate in it take it because now your chance is until Oct 1

I've said before to burn a pack of straw on every roundabout, you won't hurt anyone with that, but... but who's going to explain that it can't go on like this?
dirk 16 September 2019
well, so we're farming on October 1, enough is enough and we've let ourselves be pushed into a corner long enough.

Farmers must now take their chances to express their displeasure at the great injustice being spread through the media and the civil service.
Yesterday VPRO backlight, today Zembla where the sector is publicly pilloried. Colleagues are ashamed of constantly having to defend themselves against society, which is given an incorrect picture of the oh-so-good agricultural sector.
In the meantime, the major gritters, traders and shareholders are fully involved in the revenue model that the agro complex produces.
Time to make yourself heard, or continue like serfs on the route that the green guppies devise for you.

There is a way to achieve more without tractors
To last for weeks
Can't be stopped
Indicate in advance where an action will be taken
Prinsjesdag would have been a possibility
Could we have scored without tractors
And with more impact
No wild actions but well organized
Without too much effort to fill in European

Let me know

Klaar 16 September 2019
Steam up. We get everything ready with our tractors.
gerrit 16 September 2019
TAKE PALLET FORKS AND GAS MASKS YOU CAN ALWAYS PAVE A WAY .
WE ARE NOT STOPPED EVEN WITH A WATER CANNON OR TEAR GAS .
A FARMER DOES NOT SHINE ANYTHING OTHERWISE THERE ARE EVEN MORE OPTIONS.
nn 17 September 2019
Years ago, miners in Belgium battled the police for weeks. The mines are closed. D66 is an honest party, which at least says plainly that Dutch politics wants to be liberated from agriculture. Planning is far too difficult in the city-state of the Netherlands. Cleaning up in one go is expensive and difficult, so just slowly squeeze the throat shut. Functions perfectly.
peer 17 September 2019
the people of d 66 have no more land than there is in the flower pot in front of their window and they also leave it dry
they have never had the price of hunger, otherwise you will talk differently
I know what hunger is and thirst (water)

Do the bulk trucks, manure trucks, milk trucks, etc. also participate, or do we have to pay for it again while the eaters stay on the side. So also obliges the manure farmers and especially the flour farmers not to let us suffocate this day. One for all, all for one.
peter 17 September 2019
So Agrifirm, de Heus, for farmers, frieslandcampina etc are you involved with bulk trucks and with the entire office staff?? or does every farmer have to call you personally to come please??
Van Dijk 17 September 2019
Do not believe that they dare to take a position.
They like to have their say about circular agriculture and sustainability issues.
Just like the stand organizations
Excellent 17 September 2019
Indeed and but lower the milk price from the usual milk price and force them to farm sustainably for 3 cents extra while you increase the costs by 7 cents they have made optimal use of the poor milk price and friesland campina is the largest body of power very simple campina is not doing well has 10 years ago until now only invested in new products with a green label only they have forgotten the usual milk milk prices are under pressure at campina one scandal after another and against valler to another and for the products i say the green label they have created sales for only the conventional milk they have forgotten campina had to have less milk phosphate fechten was the way out they helped lto with the government with the green shoes want less campina has power and wala here comes the circular agriculture campina big supporter lto has a deal with campina so please leave that campina at home because thenare you sure it will fail
Dutchman 17 September 2019
I'm afraid the actions are not "decent". Then the bullet shoots back. Demonstrating will not yield more than sharing the frustration with each other. It just brings even more negavitism. I myself would prefer empty shelves of all agricultural-related items for a week (including cotton, coffee, milk powder for pharmaceuticals, etc., it doesn't matter what). This lets people see and feel what we do, and what won't happen when we're gone. We don't have to get rid of everything we produce, we can also just export and/or store everything for a while. The excuse that it costs us money is nonsense, doing nothing is going to cost us a lot more money.
The Dirk 17 September 2019
They really don't care about all nitrogen and phosphate pollution, etc. In The Hague. Dutch politicians can't bear that there is still money in a branch (our subsurface) that they all want so that they can do and leave with our surface. Then follows the new flag, red white blue with hammer and sickle
??? !!! 18 September 2019
suckers, especially of the organization. NEVER WITH (expensive) TRACTORS!!!!

only one thing works:

a limited delivery stop.

first, for example, do not deliver milk products for 1 week.
milk farmers: tell your employees (you are a cooperative!) that you are stopping the supply to the supermarkets.

next action: no potato products for 1 month.

next action: no flowers around Valentine's Day

etc. ect.

AND EVERY EVENING IN THE NEWS GIVE A NICE EXPLANATION: NL food is the best in every way.

NEVER LEAVE THE LAND, after three incidents the army is ready and you will NEVER get anywhere with an argument!

better half turned than completely erred!

Also bring a coffin with the LTO symbolically in it, it can be buried in front of the camera.
Skirt 18 September 2019
Now imagine your Dutch agricultural infrastructure as the Dutch road network, finely meshed and generally efficient. Now it is the case that the cars that drive on these roads are banned because they are too polluting and the alternative 'bicycle and horse and carriage' are only allowed. That will be an economic disaster, but the worst thing is that foreign cars can then continue to drive on our roads... with this I try to outline what is currently taking place in NL to completely destroy the agricultural sector by implementing idiotic measures .
peter 18 September 2019
According to the politicians, the Netherlands has too much to allow for the annual import of 800.000 calves?? I or the cow have to let a heifer calf drink for 14 days and I get 0 to 5 euros for this!? see market reports. Do consumers know what dirty game politics and multinationals (fasism) are playing with farmers and working citizens???
Andre 18 September 2019
Another possible solution is to start a new cooperative with a limited number of farmers who are of the same mind, this is also happening a lot in Germany. You have to be paid by RFC and with that money buy a factory together with, for example, 100 other farmers and start. At the current multinationals, far too many people have to eat with them and the farmer's back can wear out!!

need to support more, and above all don't bully, that was the moment of action, I won't be there, weaklings
peta 19 September 2019
I understand that LTO is not participating. Food from government xe gand. Become a semi-governmental agency to explain government policy to farmers? How far can you sink not to be honest about this!

My plan does have something to offer politicians and citizens.... I still don't hear that anywhere, not even from this organization. Only demands... Well, a smart plan will help!

It's great that the farmers are taking action!!!The gentlemen from above should join the farmers and their families themselves instead of always pointing the finger at them!!We will call even more polluters!!cars, airplanes, factories, Rijnaken, oil tankers, etc.. No let the cows be slaughtered and then later say that mistakes have been made!! Scandalous!! No food without farmers!! Good luck farmers, stand up for your rights!

You have to work harder or it won't work out
And otherwise it will be the farmer's death

Guys putting him on a small, measly plant is more important than a farmer who takes care of a cheap and good food supply.
How can you put a hardworking person away like that! Shame

I think the most important thing about this campaign is that there will be a very good spokesperson who can tell the story in a charismatic way, and who can answer critical questions in a witty way.
This means that we do not speak to the press in a blunt, peasant manner.

Hey Willem, let's ask that horny Yvon Jaspers. We give them a few hundred thousand and the whole of the Netherlands is at our feet after that.

Top action. As long as you behave. Otherwise it will only take us further away from home. A silent demonstration yields much more impact and respect!! Put um on colleagues!!

Nice bert!
The whole sector will be there, this was the right pass!

Politicians have never seen us standing, they won't finish that on October 1, and from their office!!
