Organization Agractie proud of participating farmers

1 October 2019 - Anne Jan Doorn - 10 comments

The organization of the farmers' manifestation Agractie is satisfied with the progress of the protest. The estimate of the number of people who were on their feet varies from 10.000 to approximately 20.000. Still, initiator Bart Kemp is not completely satisfied.

According to the organization everything went neat and safe, except for the incident with the crush barriers. The police, who had deployed heavy equipment, also report that there were no significant incidents. The organization of Agractie declares to be proud of the farmers.

The reactions about the actions of the MPs are less positive. "Tjeerd de Groot (D66) and Jesse Klaver (GroenLinks) did not have to come from me today," said Bart Kemp. "These MPs have said nothing meaningful and only come to tell their own story instead of listening. We are the experts, they are not."

Beautiful day
All in all, Kemp thought it was a beautiful day. Farmers who took part in the protests also believe that the organization has delivered a feat. Many also say they are happy that their colleagues have come so en masse. Kemp, however, is already looking ahead. "We want more than just vague promises after this day."

Between 2012 and 2015, 45 thousand hectares changed their destination, almost 1 percent of the total surface area of the Netherlands.
Agricultural land in particular was given a different use: more than 15 thousand hectares of agricultural and horticultural land were given a different use.
Dutch agricultural area is 2 million hect.
Average nitrogen absorption at 20 T/hect x 2 million hect is 40 million tons of Nitrogen bound.
You don't read in the media that farms also bind 40 million tons of Nitrogen and also CO2. The farmers' organizations could provide some more figures on that.

Take an average farmer: 36 hectares and 80 cows. (1 kg milk gives 1 kg CO2) average milk yield 9000 liters = 720 tons CO2 per year. Minus CO2 absorption /hect suppose 20 tons/yr x 36 is also 720 tons/yr.

On balance, in this example, a farm emits nothing. We media consumers are just being fooled.

Suppose there are 20 homes on one hectare, a family with 2,3 people emits 23 tons of CO2 / year per home, that is 460 tons / year for 20 homes / hect
Suppose you build a farmer's 36 hectares with 20 houses, then you dump that 36 hectares; 16560 tons/yr CO2 out.
While this 36 hect. adding nothing to extra CO2 with cattle. Cultivating Farm Nature produces more emissions of 16560 T/yr.

In my opinion, farmers' organizations have to do more calculations for their donors. Otherwise, the loud cry of Left parties including VVD to halve the livestock is a fact.

While it was precisely the government that plowed down small nature reserves everywhere without thinking about the consequences, the tax payer and farmers can again pay the damage.
