New large-scale farmer action in the making

5 December 2019 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 60 comments

Farmers Defense Force plans new large-scale campaigns with farmers, tractors and other vehicles around Christmas. The builders, united in Bouw in Verzet, are also participating. Agractie is looking at whether the action of 13 December in Amsterdam should be given a different character.

The organizations are all deeply disappointed in the government's attitude towards the nitrogen dossier. For example, Farmers Defense Force and Agractie are disappointed that the plans of the Agricultural Collective hardly serious were taken by Minister Carola Schouten (Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality). In addition, the irritation meters were high when Schouten announced anyway 'latent nitrogen space' to be included in the application for a new permit. In the plan, the Agricultural Collective is categorically against the occupation of latent space.

Plan collectively very valuable
In the debate on the emergency law, Schouten announced on Wednesday 4 December that he found the plan of the Agricultural Collective to be very valuable and that he recognized himself in many source measures proposed by the Collective. However, according to the Collective, she has not yet given any indication as to whether she wants to implement the proposal. In the debate, Minister Schouten said that he would await new advice from the Remkes Committee (on grazing and fertilising). She also hinted that the purchase of livestock farms near Natura 2000 areas will be reflected in the new nitrogen plan.

It therefore seems to be positioning itself on a collision course with the parties in the Agricultural Collective. Mark van den Oever, the chairman of Farmers Defense Force, says that enough is enough. In a letter to his followers, whom he calls 'warriors', he wonders what the real reason is that the plan of the Agricultural Collective is not being embraced by the cabinet.

Freedoms Taken
He attributes this to a philosophy he describes as 'climate salafism'. "Our fundamental freedoms are being taken away by bigots who, without any scientific, social or economic foundation, rob farmers of their rights that are inviolable and fundamental. With a government that at the same time continues to provide the largest polluting industries with subsidies and the right to screw," writes Van den Oever.

He writes that it is time to put a stop to these climate salafists. "By refreshing their memory. Pointing out to them the importance of good, healthy and accessible food. Because, what if there is a kink in that cable?" With this, Farmers Defense Force seems to be planning to disrupt logistics in the food supply, for example by blocking distribution centers of supermarkets (such as Jumbo and Albert Heijn). Farmers Defense Force is calling on farmers to form teams of 50 tractors or other vehicles for the actions.

Brunch changes character
The board will meet on Monday evening 9 December to discuss the date and the final details of the action. Also Agractie, where foreman Bart Kemp recently announced to take a step back, puts their heads together. The farmers' organization has planned the 'Boer & Burger Brunch' on Friday 13 December in Amsterdam on Dam Square and Rokin. The minister's attitude will change the content of the event, Agractie informs her followers. In what way is not yet clear.

Between Christmas and New Years, all a plow behind the tractor and blacken the N 2000 areas. Is the thunder over right now!

Yes we are going to do "lose our goodwill" with 1 silly action...

Roads and Schiphol are also being thought of, I read in the national newspapers.
I say go for it !! can we all happily continue farming and it will be decided for us.....

of:
Let the formed collective do its job and don't ride those people's wheels.

geert 5 December 2019
Schouten doesn't want anything, except endless talk.
geert 5 December 2019
Farmers are not anarchists but independent entrepreneurs who have to swallow more and more rules. The government behaves more and more like a dictator and forces the farmers to take action. What a democracy, it will be a totaliary state!
Nature of Es 5 December 2019
Sincerely curious about the opinion of farmers about the fact that 80% of Dutch production is exported. Isn't that unhealthy and unsustainable?

Mi therefore has to buy out the government, with good and fair amounts. The survivors then earn more with their products, and the emissions go down.

farmer 5 December 2019
FDC should not lose its credit... Sympathy for the club is starting to wane considerably among the farmers here in the region. The only thing they can do is shout very loudly and give the word peasant rudeness a new dimension and in the meantime, in the collective, lean hard on the knowledge & skills of the LTO...

I will continue farming again. I can live with this just fine. Entrepreneurship means adapting and those who cannot or do not want to, have to reconsider.

What's suddenly wrong with export? Other sectors also export, which ensures a good trade balance in the Netherlands. Dutch farmers are top runners in the world when it comes to producing food according to the highest possible standards and with the lowest CO2 food print.
nopboer 5 December 2019
What a bad idea this is, if you want to lose all your credit with citizens and consumers, you should especially stress them about their holidays and Christmas dinner. That is what they work hard for and look forward to. Not something for farmers to thwart that because we have problems with the government. Also, consumer and citizen is not the opponent, so we should not bother them.

This entire country is slowly slipping away from an administrative point of view. Not only in agriculture but also in other sectors. Make sure that we look for unity within agriculture, but also within the working and enterprising Netherlands. Everyone is tired of how they are now governed. Find connections and join forces instead of thwarting each other. Only then can we achieve something.

I very much hope that proposed actions do not go ahead
until here and no further 5 December 2019
knowledge and skills of lto, only because lto has already given away everything that could be given away for years do we find ourselves in this situation, the government has had long enough to come up with solutions, but they like it so much that there are problems that they never wanted to solve anything, the actions that have taken place were, as far as I'm concerned, public-friendly, I am open to hard actions, and certainly not along the lines of lto
Big William 5 December 2019
The whole country is flattened until that corrupt gang finally reaches its conclusion.
Bart 5 December 2019
@ Aart van Nes,

The 80% you mention here is a number that the left-wing spectrum of our politics is only too happy to mention in order to make the sector smaller. (It's still not clear to me why!)
However, when you nuance this number, you may come up with a different opinion. The fact remains that only 46% (about 41.5 billion) of our agricultural exports are products from the Netherlands.
In addition, we will have to recognize that the Netherlands is one of the smallest countries, but with the most fertile soil. 1%(!) of our exprot goes to neighboring countries Germany and Belgium, so if NL were, for example, the size of Germany or France, this would simply remain within our national borders, given the distance it travels.
I am getting tired of the fact that we are always talking about the EU -which also imposes the rules on us- but when we need a "negative" figure we are suddenly seen as a country of 250x150km!
A good example of being hypocritical is meat, we export almost all of this within the EU for a value of about 9 billion, but we import about 5 billion mainly from Argentina and Brazil. And then claiming that we are all so good for the environment!
geert 5 December 2019
The government is trying to get hold of the latent nitrogen rights for free, just like the Groningen natural gas, and is leaving those left behind empty-handed. It is *****. and theft. Rutte, Schouten and Dijkhoff can fuck off. They are ruled out. Rutte is still proud that he has given NATO another 5 million, apparently we should be happy with that.

It is time for politicians to step down in The Hague. There must be a new wind and a minister must receive the same wage as a teacher or a construction worker doctor director football player just a line. The food must come from our farmers in the Netherlands and be well paid. The elderly who cannot live at home to a retirement home in their own village An old tree should not be transplanted far away..Everything has been destroyed. Natura 2000 does not exist is an investment in Brussels. The bottom has been reached and the farmers are rebuilding the land on.

Hans 5 December 2019
It's time for some serious action.
Question:
Does Brussels still get the hang of it? Shouldn't the French, German and Dutch farmers focus more on Brussels?
Gerrit 5 December 2019
Land price very high! Maybe sell it and emigrate? Are the stayers and right-minded people happy and the emigrants even happier? It's choices.
Blue 5 December 2019
Just read on the AD:

Builder recognizes that there is a chance that people will not be able to get everything they want for Christmas. 'Then they will have to go to farmers to get things, like they used to.' †

Does he really think that's going to happen? Then that guy really lives in fairytale land. The only thing that happens is that you dismiss farmers as a bunch of antisocial jerks who only think of themselves and their own good. And that while farmers need the support of the rest of the Netherlands right now to get the cabinet to change its course.

JD 5 December 2019
Well gerrit all people who can't or don't want to find a home or work, emigrate

And as Endendijk recently wrote, Super piece in agraaf. In The Hague there are 3% people with common sense. The rest doesn't match.

I'm starting to get tired of complaining. Excellent year with more or less normal yields, 95 tons of onions, 115 tons of beets and 86 tons of potatoes. I just want to be able to celebrate Christmas so if my colleagues start blocking then I won't be happy. You just have to adapt and it will continue on its own

How about a subsidy on;
Insulation
Sun and wind energy
Electric aatos
Nature (2/3 part EU money)
Aircraft industry
Etc.
Why subsidy to farmers, first necessity of life FOOD
I'd say get rid of it right away.

Farmers now have no choice but to take rock-solid action.
Citizens will always be against it , but a large part also understand that you have to react against theft .
As an entrepreneur , whether or not farming , you have to look ahead and grow . You bought latent Nh3 for that in the past. If the government steals these from you, they are basically stealing the future of your company.
Another point of the minister's arrogance is to make farmers
as second-class entrepreneurs. they can only buy nh2020 from February 3 or later, to get their business in order. In other words, the 3300 farmers with a PAS tolerance situation can close the tent.
Blue 6 December 2019
@AJoet Twente
"a large part also understand that you have to react against theft."

Sure, it is. But you will lose all that understanding if you ruin their Christmas for that same large part. That's something people live up to. If you take that away from them [which is how they will feel] you don't have to count on any understanding. Not for that action, but worse, not for future actions either.
Potato 6 December 2019
If livestock farming wants to receive more support from arable farming with the actions, more attention will have to be paid to arable farming positions.

Read everywhere only about the nitrogen problem, but nowhere about decision-making in The Hague with regard to plant protection products. The neonics in the beet grower, Belgium and other countries, for example, also allow it for another year. But again Schouten does nothing.
Hugo 6 December 2019
Don't forget.... The Netherlands has grown from agriculture.
Van Vliet 6 December 2019
@Hugo what an empty cry. The Netherlands has also grown from the slave trade and theft from colonies. Just re-enter then?

Everyone just preaches for their own parish. Nitrogen story: all nonsense. That we are poisoning soil and destroying the insect world: nonsense. And those who don't deny it don't want to stop it anyway, because 'they in other countries do it too'.

Let's face it. We have to go to drastically fewer farms in the Netherlands, stop with that idiotic overproduction. And pointing to other countries is NOT an argument. The world is going to hell..., also for your children!
sjors 6 December 2019
Farmers are certainly important to the Netherlands, just like teachers, garbage collectors, etc. we do it together.
But the livestock industry has completely lost its way with the mafia practices of the three group at the forefront. So much pollution and then also largely for export.
John Lapwing 6 December 2019

Finally someone who is telling the truth. Thank you, VanVliet!
Just can't get in the way.

But the average farmer here doesn't look further than his cowshed is long. Only short-term profit is important to them. They don't care that their products come from the same nature that they just love to spray with poison or manure.
Otherwise, go lie down between the potatoes in the field when the poison spray goes over it..

what do you eat fat farmer? bulge sure?
I mean nowhere in the world can you eat anything without pesticides .

And why can't the supermarket be empty for once? they don't want to pay for honest, well-produced food, anyway .for me part they blow up the distribution centers ... and we start again at the goose board game ...a farmer has almost become a goose .with their rules .and now they start sweat a little.
chubby farmer 6 December 2019
@agri power, I eat organic vegetables. Much tastier too. Just in the supermarket. And otherwise in the organic store. So don't say there's no other way.

I'd like to make the shelves a bit emptier, I'd like. Keep those poisonous things with you.

@ chubby farmer. that you have the wallet for organic is fantastic for yourself and or your family. Do you really think that 95% of the rest of the Netherlands can afford this! you live in a fairy tale. organic is not world nourishing!
besides, I bet you don't even taste the difference between sustainably and organically produced. you will definitely eat vegan too! enjoy eating the GMO soy that has been sprayed on even more than any other sustainably produced product from the Netherlands.

another strange reaction from welles nietes
wake up everyone
why milk 300 cows when 90 cows can also earn a good living people always want more and more
Bolle farmer completely right we don't have to feed the world with organic but a nice income is enough
if you go to a biological meeting now, it is much more fun and much more fun talking with colleagues
if I went to a meeting three years ago and then told you that you have 50 / 60 dairy cows you were laughed at and they say we will buy you some more
so not to such meetings (lto no longer a member of course)
organic with 60/65 dairy cows and a lot of fun at work again, but I still get annoyed by those BIG GRADERS who just want to grow
take on lto and nzo and rabobank first but they cheered in 2015 because of the stop milk quota and we can feed the whole world
shoemakers 1 7 December 2019
the podium here has become one until the demise of dutch agriculture, the truth can no longer be told, only how good the organic is gets a podium, but for me that biological is the death knell for all of society

What a chatter here.
There is enough going on in the world food security has had its day. Taking tough action now will cost us dearly later.
The loudest screamers have had it the best in recent years.
As a arable plant grower I've never seen those good years behind quota walls so for me it doesn't get any worse than it was. Bought a fertilizer bag in 2000 at 75kg P2O5 per ha. Now to be back at 50kg per ha. not to exceed the national standard. So other livestock farmers do have that right because they do more than I can as a 2nd rank farmer can't 33 % of what others are allowed COLLEAGUES explain. But derogation is a right you need to…. and that doesn't apply to me?
A politically left-wing eighteen-year-old city boy 11 December 2019
Dear farmers in the Netherlands,
As a resident of a suburb of The Hague, a supporter of (center) left parties and with a number of farmers in my family, I want the best for you. Minimizing climate impact is certainly important to me, but I understand your dissatisfaction even more. However, I am far from the only one in such a situation who is actually less and less sympathetic to "the collective farmer" because of the kind of impact the actions have on, yes, us *non-politicians*, your compatriots, friends, and family. I wonder, do most of you have something against the town folk or is there a plan behind it?
Skirt 11 December 2019
