A delegation from the Agricultural Collective had a 'good conversation' with Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Agriculture Minister Carola Schouten on Monday about the nitrogen dossier. In front of the microphone of various media, Aalt Dijkhuizen, foreman of the Agricultural Collective, said that 'an agreement is in the making.'
After the nearly three-hour consultation, he said that 'a good basis' had been laid for an agreement on the contribution of agriculture to solving the nitrogen problem. Minister Schouten also indicated that the parties involved 'many elements' have come closer together."
The parties in the Agricultural Collective will now discuss the results of the consultations with their supporters. Dijkhuizen already demanded before the consultation, which was held in the form of breakfast, that the government's own nitrogen plan that the collective has drawn up must be taken seriously. To date, Schouten has hardly adopted proposals from this plan in its decision-making, while the collective demanded that it adopt the plan in its entirety.
Jeroen van Maanen, who was a representative of Farmers Defense Force in the collective present at the meeting, was therefore skeptical about the ultimate value of the conversation. "We have already had several good conversations, but now we also want to see results."
