Farmers Defense Force: LTO top not tenable

10 April 2020 - Erik Colenbrander - 44 comments

UPDATE - Farmers Defense Force (FDF) wonders whether the LTO executive can stay on. That is what spokesperson Jeroen van Maanen says. The farmers' movement is deeply disappointed in LTO leader Marc Calon, who says that LTO wants to discuss nitrogen policy with Minister Carola Schouten, while the Agricultural Collective has stopped talks.

Calon said this before this week in an interview with De Volkskrant† In it he also made it clear that the Agricultural Collective is under discussion. "We are therefore looking at whether and how we should proceed with the Agricultural Collective." With his statements Calon has sharpened the relationships within the collective. Internally, all 13 parties within the collective have agreed that they will always work together externally.

According to Van Maanen, "Every morning, Calon must ask himself for what purpose he is in that place: to serve the farmers' interests. And farmers' interests are not served by sowing divisions and undermining the Agricultural Collective." He finds Calon dropping his own people. He mainly advocates for regional LTO administrators and for Trienke Elshof, portfolio holder for a healthy environment at LTO Nederland. With Elshof and Aalt Dijkhuizen, the chairman of the Agricultural Collective, Van Maanen formed the negotiating delegation in the talks with Prime Minister Rutte and Minister Schouten.

Administrative LTO top
FDF is questioning the position of Calon and also the administrative top of LTO, says Van Maanen in a response. "A chairman of LTO who squanders the farmers' interests should only do one thing: get on with it. And stop costing hard-working LTO'ers energy and shit. And with him those who still keep their hands over their heads." When asked, Van Maanen refers to board members Dirk Bruins (chairman LTO Noord), Wim Bens (chairman ZLTO) and Hans van den Heuvel (director LTO Netherlands).

No substantive comments
Despite repeated urging, LTO Nederland has decided not to respond extensively to Calon's interview and the Farmers Defense Force's appeal. The organization reports in a short written response: "Last night (Thursday) good discussions were held in the Agricultural Collective. LTO Nederland acts on the basis of decisions of its own meeting of department chairmen and portfolio holders." It is as yet unclear what the outcome of the talks in the Agricultural Collective was.

Linda Janssen, chairman of the Producers Organization Pig Farming (POV), has no desire to respond. As far as the POV is concerned, the commonality of the Agricultural Collective is paramount. Chairman Aalt Dijkhuizen does not communicate with the press about complications in the nitrogen dossier and therefore not now. He says he does this in the interest of the farmers.

Update: LTO North contradicts
Remarkably enough, LTO or foreman Calon did not provide a further explanation, but the LTO North directors Bruins, Elshof, Ben Haarman and Nico Verduin informed members in a message that the contribution of LTO within the Agricultural Collective is not under discussion. "LTO will continue to work through input via the Agricultural Collective to reach an agreement together."

The directors also emphasize that the Agricultural Collective, as agreed from the start, is a temporary collaboration between the parties in the nitrogen dossier. "It has been agreed to work together until the final letter to parliament, which is expected shortly. This letter is seen as the final piece of the national negotiations, after which the elaboration will take place in the provinces. Whether the Agricultural Collective will then go further is still unknown. various parties in the Agricultural Collective have indicated that they are considering their position."

They emphasize that, even without an Agricultural Collective, both LTO and LTO Noord will continue to work together with the parties to bring dossiers to the best possible conclusion. "We are already sitting around the table in every province, hopefully with constructive partners."

It now seems to me a good momentum for Marc Calon to take the helm in the nitrogen dossier. He can do it and is not afraid. Many farmers will rear. But if he takes the time to show them that he's doing it for them too, I think you'll be fine.

See my call to Calon on LinkedIn (open URL): bit.ly/2XBvfHl

Bertus, you are also yelling from the sidelines, with a completely different agenda than LC.

I think it's a good time to let this man go. he has destroyed more than I like.
Ton 10 April 2020
Bert are you back? The only thing Calon has shown is that he denies his supporters and is under one roof with the government.

Tell me some of Calon's feats that I should get my hands on? Immediately kick that guy away, and trade it in for an SGP guy. If Elbert Dijkgraaf becomes the new chairman, I will register (again) as a member!

fc farmer 10 April 2020
agree with you Ton, Elbert Dijkgraaf is a very intelligent man.
Let the red one go..
howl 10 April 2020
Hey Bertus such a red doerrakker.doesn't belong to the lto at all, fuck off the last 25 years far too little achieved that whole group yuck.
pietje1 10 April 2020
Funny. Is an arable farmer the right person to represent the interests of nitrogen for livestock farming?
But perhaps the arable farmer has the greatest interest in keeping as much livestock as possible in NL......
January 10 April 2020
Still frightening that the FdF wants to rule the Dutch agricultural sector. People with a big mouth are not always right!!
Hans 10 April 2020
As unfortunate as it is, Marc Calon has already cost the LTO far too many members.
If he acted in the peasant interest at this time, he wisely kept quiet to the press.
Carola Schouten gives him the idea that she sees him as an advocate for agriculture.
She does this smartly because she knows that his ego will get in the way of the negotiations with the LC, unfortunately for us Marc always walks with both feet in it.
Marc Calon, if you want to serve the industry, step down today.
As a paying LTO member that seems the best to me!!!
Pete 2 10 April 2020
Bertus, you have absolutely nothing to do with the farming profession. The family was a farmer, but you yourself were not and never have been.
I would be careful not to express an outspoken LTO opinion.
Rene the young 10 April 2020
Calon cannot listen, not to the farmers, not to the members and apparently also not to his regional administrators.

October 1 was plain language; this far and no further, grudgingly Calown had to move among the crowd and listen for unity, real unity.

The coals have been taken out of the fire by FDF and Agractie, acted wisely and have formed a Collective with LTO included!

The LC, led by Aalt Dijkhuizen, had a lot of patience, but the measure is (again) full for once.
But the Calown now feels unemployed but is in fact useless, Trienke (and others) can do just fine without this Clown.

It is very understandable that a new term is approaching, then you have to make yourself important or otherwise apply for another position and you can do that over the back of your supporters, there are more politicians who have the same done.
Richard 10 April 2020
Bertus is not a farmer and has nothing to do with farmers.
He only deserves it.
Don't understand why he's meddling in this (maybe he's being hired by carola)
Henk 10 April 2020
Willy van Gemert said it exactly as it is a few days ago. Calon and the LTO are all about power and they want to keep it at all costs over the farmer's backs.
ordinary farmer 10 April 2020
understand very well why bertus is involved in this
can be fixed with zone panels and windmills
grab a few percent commission yourself farmers hell
let land perish due to poor energy supply
countryside fucked and polluted
in short left dicks filling pockets right bah
and denhaag falls for it with
green talk bah
Farmer Adriana 10 April 2020
I get Calon. Carola doesn't care about the LC. The LC has ruined it for itself due to the cocky behavior of FDF in particular and the accompanying threatening language and way of negotiating. Unfortunately, Aalt cannot repair the FDF cracks that have arisen in the appearance of the LC. Add to this the disappointing results of the Mesdag Fund, which are no longer taken seriously. The only way to still keep in touch and to remove the sharpest edges of the measures that Carola proposes here and there is to sit down in The Hague under your own LTO title. I think the LC did not do well to stop the consultations.... We will have to make do with it as a sector. And we will really survive it again in general terms!!!
News reader Rutte Zegt 10 April 2020
I understand your concerns.
Do you know it?? 10 April 2020
It's nice to hear that on forums.
I usually don't read that. Everyone knows better.
Lots of mud throwing.
Also now. Neither side is sacred. Neither Lto nor FDF.
One thing many farmers do have in common.
They think they'll just make it through.
Maybe then the down-to-earth fries will come to mind.
But together you are strong,
And let that be something we are no longer very strong at.
Useful for politicians and other organizations.
I'm curious how many people on this forum contact drivers directly. Know what's going on. Not me. After all, there is so much going on.
Maybe something to steer the organizations more and I mean all of them. We can. We have shown that in the last six months. Why not monthly, eg send an email to our organization about what we think about it.
Then everything is on paper and they can get out less.
But oh why. We still have it here for comparison abroad.
Take care.
Pete Hermus 10 April 2020
The board of the FDF foundation, sitting there without a real member mandate, finds something in a personal capacity, as its board members see fit. That is possible and allowed. She occasionally holds so-called polls via Facebook, where the followers follow the line of the so-called board quite slavishly and servile.

I also think something of various people of this board. Given the past communication of some of them, I could also demand that they resign. I also do not consider some of them capable and suitable.

FDF is setting up an association. Here I have a few questions; Where can I find the statutes?
When is the inaugural meeting?
Who will be on the board?

If you can become a member of something, I think it would be useful to know what you are joining. Just being a member of anything is too thin for me. Believing someone on the blue eyes, based on shouting horns in the past, is too little.

In short; If FDF thinks something of others and directors of other clubs, then others may think something of so-called board members of FDF. I consider, for example, Mark vd Oever, Daniëlle Hekman, Mischa Bouwer unsuitable. But that's an opinion.
willie van gemert 10 April 2020
The past has taught me that if an LTO chairman takes such a position that there has long been talk in the back rooms. The reward for Calon after his resignation is already set, I think.

An interview at Trouw says enough
Jos 10 April 2020
Calon should have had a shovel long ago he's not there for the farmers and he never will. He's a mole a rat let him count his members first
Geertje 10 April 2020
LTO has never achieved nothing and will never achieve nothing.
??? !!! 10 April 2020
update: only agricultural collective WITHOUT LTO may/will represent me, with nitrogen or any file, in any year.
Pieter 10 April 2020
FDF is over, too much goofing off. Much rather LTO, which has been shaken awake again and goes back to its roots: farmers' interest organisation. I have faith in it.
Narcos 11 April 2020
Lto would much rather be involved in the projects with lnv than that they should do what their actual task is, which is to defend the interests of the supporters.
In the meantime, the supporters have been decimated and lto has become a conduit for lnv.
Sad story of what used to be a sector representative.
howl 11 April 2020
Oh o Pieter, completely ripped off the p...
Ellen 11 April 2020
100% agree with Jeroen van Maanen. He puts his finger EXACTLY on the sore spot. He gives well-founded criticism of the chairman of LTO. It is easy for people to criticize various people at the opposing party, such as: an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth and without properly substantiating it, and indicates to me that there are few other arguments.

FDF consists of honest and brave people who at least stand up for the farmers. Where else do you find that? Just give it a try, you have to invent everything out of the blue and the opponent(s) are well-oiled machines that know exactly how the paths run. And FDF is holding up pretty well. Hats off! They are not media trained, so they will say things that make some of them distressed. But that has more to do with those some than with FDF.
Jan 11 April 2020
FDF overplays itself. Citizens are not interested in terrorist behavior by Q fever companies. Just think about that...
ps 11 April 2020
I noticed years ago, Van Wiens bread LTO also eats whose word one always speaks!!! looks like employment agency jobs Carousel!!!!

Jos nailed it on the head. it cannot grow because it would have known that it barely represents 30%.

or turned around; calon stabs LC in the back to start negotiating for 70% who don't want to. I wonder what LNV has promised him if he will support their policy on behalf of the minority. I think Marcje will be a dijkgraaf or mayor somewhere at Christmas
Maarten 11 April 2020
The farmer's block is no longer a unit and with that it is unfortunately finished. Poor close.

Today Easter is a reminder that Judas betrayed the innocent and righteous Jesus to those in power because Judas lost respect in him and the view of Jesus became too threatening for those in power.
Happy Easter everyone!

Maintaining unity among peasants is virtually impossible due to the natural greed, envy and jealousy of man
jochem 12 April 2020
FDF, are those the rioters?
shoemakers1 12 April 2020
No, Jochem, those are people we desperately need as a sector, the advocates we had in the past thought everything was fine, as long as they could continue with prior information themselves
common sense 13 April 2020
We receive corona messages in numbers per country.

Compare this with 1 sick chicken from a private individual or a chicken breeder.
This form of reporting is standard in 2020.

Every farmer knows that these numbers are total madness,
corona is not the virus but our total hypocrisy.
Maarten 13 April 2020
Healthcare institutions and the government have recognized the situation around Corona too late. Against advice, not invested in protective equipment. No, the responsible minister does not have to resign. Carola, on the other hand, intervened promptly and decisively in the ammonia dossier to prevent further destruction of nature. FDF, denies the problem, that's criminal. Now to tackle the particulate matter, because that aggravates the suffering of Corona patients.
rule maker 13 April 2020
in order not to destroy nature, all so-called protectors should be fired, they are the real destroyers who are only after money, and who are also given way too much
Newsreader Rutte 13 April 2020
This is a story of newsreaders rather than Democratic decision-making, a story of our culture's decline.

The Dutch are fleeing to the farmers again, Now that their hypocritical hypocrisy is taking shape, VVD's Islamizing sodom and gomorrah: Screaming multicultural testerone bombs on the street from prehistoric cultures and babbling subsidized heavily pregnant women in burqas: that's a bit away from the farm.

What does newsreader Rutte say?

If you don't like it here, just enjoy yourself.

I want to warn everyone about people like bertusduizer who want to cause a divide and conquer strategy go and see who that bertusduizer is you can see it in continued discussion newsgraser look at link this says enough
Facts 13 April 2020
Farmers are the last independent thinking people who have the sense to take a risk for banks with countries without equity / words for money (secondary sector HBO fascism).

Taking their land should have prevented this, it has failed so far. Throwing Standards to destroy this sector is just the next transparent trick out of the Freedom and Democracy box.

As long as the facts speak, a FAMILY BUSINESS farmer is invincible simply because he has a crucial profession: the primary sector, all attempts at destruction make us stronger!

The borders will close as long as seventy companies worldwide are working on a vaccine and the media calls the number of deaths as pigs as in a football match, an uneducated farmer is wiser than all the sick lobby clerks in The Hague together.

Simply because he is the last to live with reality, as long as his land is not taken away the farmer can make or break this land!
Anti facts 13 April 2020
As long as there are anti-facts, we can speak of a CRISIS. But simply these Hague lobby clerks. Is that possible?
Throwing with Norms from Left and that is only 1 trick.
I really think that farmers can think and present well.
Long live the Country. Build.
Corona crisis 13 April 2020
The corona crisis suddenly gives us crucial professions and a solution for nitrogen emissions.

No highly educated social historian monkey with the famous gold ring could have come up with this.

Except the farmer.
