Jaap Haanstra and Jan-Cees Vogelaar want to become joint chairman of LTO Nederland. The experienced directors will announce this ambition on Wednesday 22 July at a press meeting in Nijkerk. Haanstra and Vogelaar have drawn up a 10-point plan for the advocacy of agricultural interests, in which LTO can play a central role.
LTO Nederland is looking for a successor to Marc Calon, who suddenly resigned in mid-May this year due to lack of support from the supporters. According to Vogelaar and Haanstra, they are very suitable for the 'highest post at the largest farmers' organisation, as they describe themselves. With all the main features of the job profile of the future chairman that LTO published last week, the two directors - together they say 70 years of experience - place a green tick.

Haanstra and Vogelaar, both from Flevoland, have extensive administrative experience, also within LTO. Vogelaar was chairman of the LTO Dairy Farming Department for several years, while Haanstra (now chairman of the Agri Facts Foundation) was the foreman of LTO Akkerbouw for many years. "We want to put our shoulders to the wheel together for the interests of the farmer and horticulturist", they say.
The duo's 10-point plan will be presented on Wednesday afternoon, July 22, which also happens to be the day of the large farmers' protest at RIVM in Bilthoven. The ultimate candidate for president will be nominated by the LTO board in November.
