'Agribusiness does not sit still, that deserves respect'

"The award is intended as a compliment to a company that manages to improve the position of Dutch agricultural entrepreneurs in livestock farming and arable farming through his or her actions," says Eric de Lijster, editor-in-chief of Boerenbusiness.NL. "For companies and individuals who inspire and take the sector to a higher level with their innovative strength, sustainability and social commitment."

De Agribusiness Awards is the price for a company in the agricultural sector that makes a positive contribution to the operational management and thus the return on an agricultural company. This can be done, for example, with an innovative product process, the development of an ingenious product or the setting up of a distinctive service. An investment that helps to improve the position of the farmer in the agricultural chain.

"Companies in arable farming and livestock farming are the epitome of adaptability to the many risks that they face," says De Lijster. "They operate in markets with often erratic price movements, have to deal with extreme weather, respond to social changes, not to mention acting in the volatile political climate."

The nitrogen crisis, fertilizer legislation and the corona crisis are on top of that, he adds. "Yet the sector does not sit still and that deserves respect. With the Agribusiness Award we want to put initiatives that help farmers in their entrepreneurship in the limelight. In times of corona, now that trade fairs and events are cancelled, all the more reason to apply. So many great products and services are being launched on the market. They should not remain under the radar, but deserve to be in the spotlight."

Until September 30, 2020, entrepreneurs can register for the Boerenbusiness Agribusiness Award. The jury of experts, chaired by chairman Aalt Dijkhuizen, assesses the entries and selects the nominees. The eventual winner will be announced on November 26 and will go home with the Award and a media package worth €6.500.
