Aviko Rixona and Unilever enter into agreement

25 September 2020 - Kimberly Bakker

Aviko Rixona, part of Aviko, has signed a strategic agreement with Unilever. Aviko Rixona is also taking over a production location in Stavenhagen in northern Germany from Unilever. The company reports this in a press release.

Aviko Rixona produces potato granulate and potato flakes that find their way through the food industry to the food service channel and the retail markets. On Friday 25 September, the company announced the acquisition of the Unilever production location in Stavenhagen. This factory processes potatoes into branded products (including Knorr and Pfanni) and products for Unilever's other sites. The brands remain the property of Unilever.

Become a global market leader
In addition to the acquisition of this factory, the company is also entering into a strategic partnership with Unilever. “The worldwide demand for potato granules and flakes is increasing and is partly driven by the strong growth in the demand for salty snacks,” explains Chris Deen, CEO of parent company Aviko Group. "The acquisition is in line with Rixona's ambition to become the world market leader in potato granules and flakes."

"We are delighted with the acquisition, as it aligns with our ambition to take a leading position in plant-based ingredients," said Albert Markusse, CEO of Royal Cosun, of which Aviko is a part. The acquisition has been notified to the German competition authority and is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
