Agriculture minister Carola Schouten will continue in politics after the elections to the House of Representatives in March next year. She is in second place of the candidate list of the Christian Union. "With her performance and work, she has conquered a place in the hearts of many, both inside and outside the party," the party said in a statement on Friday.
In the first place of the party is the current party leader Gert-Jan Segers. Party chairman Piet Adema says in a statement that he is happy that Schouten is available for the upcoming parliamentary elections. "In addition to Gert-Jan Segers, current Deputy Prime Minister Carola Schouten has been a defining figurehead of our party for years."
The ChristenUnie has 5 seats in the current House of Representatives, making it the smallest party in the government coalition with the VVD, CDA and D66. For the coming elections, party leader Segers says he is aiming for 7 seats. This may mean that Hermen Vreugdenhil is left out. The Christian Union party leader in the Provincial Council of North Brabant has manifested himself in recent months as a critic of nitrogen policy in the Netherlands and his province. Vreugdenhil is number 9 on the list of candidates.
Gert-Jan Segers was previously elected as party leader in the upcoming elections. The rest of the list of candidates will be determined at the digital congress of the ChristenUnie to be held on November 21.
