Politics Elections 2021

Geurts on 11, Vedder on 23 at CDA, Von Martels away

Agriculture spokesman Jaco Geurts (photo) is on the electoral list of the CDA for the elections to the House of Representatives in 11th place. Livestock farmer Eline Vedder from Ruinerwold is in 26th place. Dairy farmer and current MP Maurits von Martels from Dalfsen has rejected a low place on the list and is disappointed to leave politics.

Cees de Jong, dairy farmer in Hoogblokland, is also eligible and is in position 35, according to the list published by the CDA on Tuesday. The absence of Maurits von Martels is particularly striking. The dairy farmer received 2017 preferential votes in the previous parliamentary elections in 21.000. Although he was in 44th place, he still entered the House of Representatives for the CDA, which now has 19 seats in parliament. Von Martels informs RTV Oost that he has rejected a 39th place on the list.

big disappointment
He states that he lacks 'appreciation' in the low position. For Von Martels it is a big disappointment and has therefore indicated to withdraw from the list. "The work continues. There will also be another debate about granulate tonight. I'm just going to do my best professionally". Because von Martels did not get agriculture in his file, he was unable to profile himself clearly towards his farmers' supporters in recent years.

In terms of agriculture and horticulture, the CDA seems to want to profile itself in the coming elections with Geurts and Vedder. Geurts has already stated that in the coming years "that the farmer's voice in The Hague will be permanently heard and that I will work together with the other agricultural candidates for the position of our farmers, horticulturists and fishermen."

Opportunities for parliament
Eline Vedder is in 23rd place. In view of the current number of seats in the CDA, this is not an eligible position, unless of course the CDA wins a substantial number of seats in the upcoming elections. However, the cattle farmer, who became nationally known a few years ago due to many appearances in the media, can also be chosen with preferential votes.

That is not entirely unthinkable, because she also owes her place in the Provincial Council of Drenthe for the CDA to preferential votes. A third option is for the CDA to rejoin the cabinet, with some MPs moving on to a post as minister or state secretary. Vedder's chances of entering parliament after March 2021 are therefore certainly not small.

For Cees de Jong, the Binnenhof with a 35th position seems far away. Unless, of course, the dairy farmer from Hoogblokland manages to obtain many preferential votes in his immediate vicinity in the municipalities of Molenlanden (Alblasserwaard) and Vijfheerenlanden.

Right-wing coalition
The number 1 on the electoral list is, as has become known before, Hugo de Jonge. In 2nd place is Pieter Omtzigt and in 3rd place is Inge van Dijk from Brabant. She played an important role in the coalition formed in the Provincial Council of North Brabant between, among others, the CDA and the Forum for Democracy. Although this right-wing coalition can count on a lot of agricultural support in the province, this pact did generate a lot of internal discussion at the CDA.

Another notable name is presenter Lucille Werner. She was placed in 10th place, 1 place above Jaco Geurts.
