Agribusiness Award contender: Koppert

2 November 2020 - Kimberly Bakker

The jury of the Boerenbusiness Awards has nominated 4 companies with their product or service for the Agribusiness Award 2020. In the coming period they will introduce themselves and the product. Today it is the turn of nominated Koppert Biological Systems with their Natutec Drone.

Koppert Biological Systems has been nominated for the Agribusiness Award 2020 with their Natutec Drone. Tom Vroegop, product manager Monitoring & Application, was last week receive the nomination. "We are really proud that we are among the last 4 finalists of the many participants. It is a real confirmation for us that we have something beautiful in our hands, with which we can help the farmer to produce food in a sustainable way."

Natutec Drone: fighting diseases and pests
The innovation of Koppert Biological Systems is the so-called 'Natutec Drone'. This system uses drones to release all of Koppert's predatory mites and insects into agricultural crops in order to combat diseases and pests. The Natutec Drone consists of a drone, with an expansion system underneath (with a reservoir of 13 liters) that Koppert has even developed. "The unique thing about this is that we can release all predatory mites and insects at the same time and transfer them live to the crop. The drone is 20 times faster than the traditional way of spreading," says Vroegop.

Koppert Biological Systems hopes with this innovation to respond to, among other things, the unrest surrounding food safety and the fact that the number of diseases and pests is increasing due to climate change. "The list of chemicals is getting smaller and smaller. Farmers have to find a different way to combat pests and diseases. Koppert has grown up in indoor cultivation, but you can also naturally combat pests and diseases in outdoor cultivation. The Natutec Drone can do that. short-term contributions and therefore also contribute to making the agricultural and horticultural sector more sustainable."

Presentation on November 26
The jury is also impressed by this innovation: "We believe that it is a wonderful innovation. By combining existing knowledge about biological control in the greenhouse with modern technology for application options in the field, a large and promising market within reach," said jury chairman Aalt Dijkhuizen.

The next step is that the 4 nominees will give a closed presentation to the jury on Friday 6 November. The winner of the 26 nominees will be announced on November 4. Due to corona, this denouement can be followed digitally and for everyone live on Boerenbusiness.NL.
