Bird flu discovered on second poultry farm

Bird flu of probably the highly pathogenic variant H5 has been diagnosed on a farm with laying poultry in the Gelderland village of Puiflijk. The company is located in the 3 kilometer zone that applies around the company in Altforst, where at the end of last month the first bird flu to be discovered

This is reported by the Ministry of Agriculture. Around the affected company in Puiflijk (municipality of Druten) there is another poultry company within a radius of 1 kilometre. To prevent contamination, the chickens are culled on both farms. There are 100.000 laying hens on the farm where the infection was detected. The other company has 115.000 hens reared for laying.

Zones of 3 and 10 kilometers are now also being set up around the affected company in Puiflijk, where measures will apply from today (Thurs 5 November). Because this second infected farm is close to the first, the zones largely overlap, the ministry reports.

Dead birds in the north
In the area of ​​3 kilometers around the infected farm in Puiflijk, there are 6 other poultry farms, including the one that had been culled earlier. The other companies in this area are sampled and examined for bird flu.

There are 10 poultry farms in the 24 kilometer zone around this company. The transport ban applies to this zone. The transport ban concerns poultry, eggs, poultry manure and used litter, but also other animals and animal products from poultry farms.

Several dead birds have been found in the north of the Netherlands. These birds are sent and examined, the ministry reports. The results of this investigation are not yet known.
