Despite the fact that rural America has largely remained behind Trump, some agricultural organizations have now embraced President Biden. For example, the National Farmers Union announces that it is ready for a collaboration with Biden and the American Farm Bureau Federation also sees the future positively.
Agricultural issues were not so much at the top of Joe Biden's policy plan. Certainly not the way Trump encouraged it: big, bigger, biggest. Biden wants to do more for family and small businesses. The Democrat is committed to short chains to help and keep the aforementioned companies afloat. This is at odds with the typical large-scale nature of American agriculture.
Welcome Biden
Nevertheless, agricultural advocacy groups and cooperatives are cautiously signaling their readiness for a presidential term under Biden. National Farmers Union (NFU) president Rob Larew said he was pleased Biden would address concerns they have expressed over the past four years about overproduction, trade issues and the climate. Among other things, the Democrat wants to rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement and has indicated that he is committed to providing agricultural entrepreneurs with the tools they need to take climate-friendly steps within the companies.
The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) also sees a bright future with Biden at the helm. President Zippy Duvall congratulates Biden on the win in a publication on the AFBF site. Duvall says he is positive about the opportunities Biden sees for rural America. He hopes the Democrat will push for more trade and an improved and fair market position for American farmers and their products. In addition, the chairman is pleased that Biden is committed to improving the quality of life in rural areas and that he wants to stimulate and support climate neutral and sustainable agriculture.
Focus on improvement
Both sides foresee positive changes in the agricultural sector with Biden as president. That does not alter the fact that the emerging president will not end up in a spread bed. Agricultural America voted almost unanimously for Trump, looking at the red-colored agricultural areas on the map. Biden is expected to work hard to prove himself. If he can ensure that the quality of life in the countryside increases, for example by installing good telephone and internet networks, and thereby ensure that unemployment decreases, then he will take major steps. There is also much to be gained in the area of trade and climate, subjects on which the democrat has already emphasized.
Other agricultural organizations and cooperatives have not yet released an official statement regarding Joe Biden's (unofficial) victory.
