'Minister must comply with agreements on costs of registration plates'

2 December 2020 - Kimberly Bakker

The costs for the identification and registration of new (agricultural) construction vehicles must be set at a maximum of €61 per vehicle, write sector organizations Cumela, LTO Nederland, Fedecom and BMWT in a letter to Minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen. "She must comply with previous statements about the costs of the registration and license plate obligation."

The sector organizations find it strange that the costs for registration and identification of new agricultural vehicles by RDW have been set at more than €200 per vehicle. In mid-April, the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management wrote in a letter to parliament that the costs of vehicles put into use before January 2021 would be €30 and of new vehicles from January 1, 2021, €61 per vehicle.

"The higher costs that the RDW has now implemented will result in an increase in costs of almost €5 million per year in the sector," the sector organizations write in the letter. That is why the parties have now requested the minister to indicate to the RDW that the costs for this identification and registration of new agricultural vehicles may not exceed €61 per vehicle.

Introduction of accelerated enrollment
In the fire letter, the sector organizations also demand the immediate introduction of the accelerated registration of all (agricultural) construction vehicles that are provided with a COC statement. "The RDW has previously been requested by the business community to prepare the accelerated registration for European type-approved vehicles and national small series approvals. This is being pushed forward each time, while this accelerated registration for the other vehicles identified and registered by the RDW is the standard method."

According to the parties, this means that the RDW will inspect every new vehicle in 2021 and only then register it. This is a time-consuming job and, according to the trade associations, this has major consequences for the logistics and planning of machine suppliers. "Because of the seasonal influences, they have to deliver many vehicles in the spring in a short time."
