Pig and beef farmers who supply supermarket chain Plus receive an extra contribution, the retailer writes in a press release. In this way it wants to strengthen cooperation within its own exclusive short chain.
The 16 pig farmers and 90 beef farmers who supply their products through Supermarket Plus's own exclusive short chain receive an extra contribution from the retailer. "Currently, the market prices of both pork and beef (for various reasons) are at a low level. That is why we have decided to meet our own farmers with an extra contribution, on top of the current market price."
The supermarket chain does not want to make any statements about the amount of that contribution. "We only share this with the pig and beef farmers", the retailer said when asked. "We believe that this provides the most certainty about the minimum price." There are no strings attached, according to Plus. "This contribution falls within the existing agreements in the chain. Farmers therefore do not have to do anything extra."
Collaboration is priority
For the retailer, the emphasis with the short chain is on cooperation. "We think it is important to continue to give future-oriented interpretation to good food from a healthy chain with the farmers. Moreover, with this chain we offer purchase certainty. This is an important pillar within the business operations of the farmers involved and ensures continuity and certainty. "
