Koninklijke De Heus is selling Van Miert's poultry slaughterhouses again after just one month. The 2 production locations in Breukelen and Hunsel, with a total slaughter capacity of 850.000 chicks per week, will be taken over by Exportslachterij Clazing. De Heus thereby acquires a minority interest in Clazing.
The private feed company announced this on Tuesday (March 2). More than a month ago, De Heus announced that it would take over Van Miert. With this, the group wanted to guarantee the survival of the slaughterhouse, which is suffering from the corona crisis, so that the poultry farmers could also continue to supply. According to De Heus, the deal with Clazing will guarantee 'slaughter capacity and create a Dutch slaughterhouse combination with a healthy future perspective'.
Independent course
De Heus declares that it wants to continue to focus primarily on its core activity: animal feed. Poultry slaughterers Clazing and Van Miert continue to pursue their own independent course under the joint leadership of the brothers Clazing and Jerry van Miert, De Heus reports in a statement. In doing so, they are looking for opportunities for the two organizations to strengthen each other.
Van Miert's locations in Breukelen and Hunsel will remain in operation. Employment remains guaranteed. As a minority shareholder, De Heus declares that it will not interfere in the day-to-day management. This enables De Heus Voeders' chick planning to continue its collaboration with other slaughterhouses. The proposed transaction still has to be approved by the competition authority ACM.
