Record result for ABZ Animal Nutrition in 2020

23 March 2021 - Kimberly Bakker

ABZ Diervoeding closed the year 2020 with the highest result since the establishment of the feed company in 2013. This concerns almost €4,2 million. Half of the result is paid out to the members by means of supplementary payments.

It is clear to everyone that 2020 was a special year. ABZ Diervoeding had to deal with, among other things, the themes: corona crisis, African swine fever and nitrogen. "The impact of these themes on the members and on livestock farmers in general was and is not small. Individual differences are large, but concern about selling prices and social support for Dutch livestock farming is omnipresent," said general manager Marcel Roordink.

Nevertheless, the company has managed to hold its own. The financial result is the best result since the company was founded in 2013. It concerns an amount of €4,173 million, after tax. "Since ABZ Diervoeding does not aim for high profits, €2,12 million of this will be paid out to the members," the company said. This results in a supplementary payment of € 4,50 per tonne of compound feed.

Good sales figures
Last year, a total of 715.00 tons of animal feeds were sold, of which 612.000 tons of compound feeds. "It is an excellent performance in a shrinking market", the company describes the result in its annual report. It should be noted that last year had an extra week. This resulted in a 2% increase in turnover and sales. "If we calculate this back to a year with 52 weeks, then we have kept our sales volume at about the same level as the year before," says ABZ Diervoeding.

The differences between the sectors were large. The contraction in the sale of pig feeds (-11.185 tons to 157.183 tons), as a result of the stoppage scheme and remediation schemes, was sufficiently compensated by extra sales of ruminant and poultry feed (+19.440 tons to 444.574 tons). Sales of simple raw materials, roughage and fertilizers also showed a plus. For example, sales of fertilizers rose by more than 2.500 tons to 14.333 tons.
