Export ban for 15 Argentine slaughterhouses

1 April 2021 - Chanti Oussoren

In Argentina, 15 meat producers have been removed from the export list. They are accused of evading taxes on exports to foreign countries.

Argentina's 15 slaughterhouses have been suspended after the government discovered large shipments of meat that were not registered with the state, for the purpose of tax evasion. Reuters says that it concerns at least 40 tons of shipments from one of the most well-known beef producers. The names of the companies and the export destinations of the meat have not been released.

Argentina is one of the top beef exporters worldwide and China is a major buyer. Last year Argentina exported more than 850.000 tons to China, accounting for nearly 75% of total beef exports.
