Boerenbusiness presents the Agribusiness Award for the third time this year. The price for companies with a new product or service with a financial advantage for the farmer. Last year's winner is the mobile Lab of Limagrain. How are things going a year later?
The mobile lab, which analyzes a fresh grass sample within a few minutes, is in full development. Limagrain has not been idle in the past year and the ambitions for the lab are great. The goal is to convert the case with measuring equipment into a lighter handheld unit for the company's representatives to take on the road. Testing is now underway and it is expected to be rolled out by early 2023 at the latest.
Data is essential
"A spring like 2021 shows once again how important a good grass measurement is," says Jos Groot Koerkamp, commercial manager of livestock farming at Limagrain. "The differences between the plots are so great that reliable data is essential. If you immediately know what is growing on the land in the pit instead of waiting 8 to 10 weeks for a regular analysis result, you can make timely adjustments in the next cuts and make the difference.This spring even part of the first cut was harvested as hay due to the difficult weather conditions and you obviously don't grow the first cut before that.The sooner you have the details of your fresh grass, the faster you can anticipate ."
Limagrain has set up 1 extra lab in the east of the country this year. This brings the number this year to 3 active mobile labs. The question is whether the device will actually come on the market in the future. "As Limagrain, we are of course a breeding and propagation company for sowing seeds, our focus remains on that," says Groot Koerkamp.
The participation in the Boerenbusiness Agribusiness Award has had some effect for Limagrain. "After participating, we received a lot of new applications, up to New Zealand. Not only that, but we also experienced the process after registration as very positive. Because you have to present it in front of a professional jury, you still look more aware of your product and that ensures that you can propagate it even better in practice."
Agribusiness Awards 2021
The registration page for the Agribusiness Award 2021 is now open. The jury of experts, chaired by chairman Aalt Dijkhuizen, assesses the entries and selects the nominees. The eventual winner will be announced on November 24, 2021.
