Boerenbusiness presents the Agribusiness Award for the third time this year. The price for companies with a new product or service with a financial advantage for the farmer. One of last year's nominees is the Lely Orbiter. How are things going a year later?
Lely has continued to build considerably on the Orbiter over the past year. The growth has not yet stopped at this fully automated dairy factory on the farm. A fourth Orbiter will be added after the summer and the production has also been expanded with cream.
Big ambitions
Sergio Ooijens, head of processing at Lely calls Lely's ambition 'grand, but thorough.' "With the Orbiter, we mainly want to provide added value for the farmer and also bring the consumer closer to the milk." It is precisely this ambition that appealed to the expert jury of the Agribusiness Award. The jury chaired by Aalt Dijkhuizen wrote in the jury commentary: "It is particularly appealing that you have developed an innovation that for once does not focus on greater productivity or efficiency, but on more added value of products on the farm".
A year after the nomination, Lely sees more and more connections with retail. "We are slowly rolling out the concept and now see that retail is increasingly moving and picking up the concept. For example, Jumbo has also had dairy on the shelf that comes directly from the farm since last month. Albert Heijn and Picnic are also joining in and with that the concept is growing steadily.”
Attention to the story
At the same time, Ooijens looks at current events with mixed feelings. "What we are doing with the Orbiter is also very topical today. Yet it is in stark contrast to what you see happening around you now. I have every confidence in the innovative strength of the sector and hope that there will be room for this to continue." to put."
He looks back positively on his participation in the Boerenbusiness Agribusiness Award. "It has generated the necessary attention for Lely, not least within the company. It gives the team an enormous boost if you are selected as one of the nominees. It is a bit of recognition for the team that has worked hard on it. On the other hand, such a nomination pays attention to the story we stand for. A nomination like this certainly contributes."

The registration page for the Agribusiness Award 2021 is now open. You can register until September 12. The jury then assesses the entries and selects the nominees. The eventual winner will be announced on November 24, 2021.
