A motion not to halve the livestock did not make it yesterday (Thursday) during the General Political Reflections. Just like motions to stimulate innovative power for nitrogen reduction, no longer using the Rav list as a requirement for emission reduction and not agreeing to free trade agreements with countries where agricultural production standards are lower than in the EU. It was striking that CDA and VVD consistently voted against, but former CDA prominent Pieter Omtzigt voted in favor of these motions as a one-man faction.
It was also remarkable that BBB supported a motion by the Party for the Animals (PvdD). That was the motion not to agree to free trade agreements that include agriculture with countries where agricultural production standards are lower than those in the EU.
The motion against halving the livestock was submitted by Caroline van der Plas and Wybren van Haga. For every cow that we remove from here, 3 are returned elsewhere in the world, so halving the livestock here will not solve anything globally against climate change, they said. The government should focus on innovation instead of reduction.
Limiting effect on innovation
BBB and Van Haga also submitted a joint motion to stop using the Rav list (Ammonia and Livestock Farming Regulations) as a condition for emission reductions on agricultural holdings, because they believe that this has a restrictive effect on the innovative capacity of Dutch entrepreneurs. This motion also failed.
A motion regarding agriculture that did make it was one of PvdD and BIJ1. This means that manure digesters are excluded from the SDE++ subsidies. This is because the outgoing cabinet reserves an extra €3 billion for the SDE++ subsidy pot.
A PvdD motion to impose a moratorium on the construction of new livestock sheds and on the expansion of existing sheds was defeated.
