Politics Poll

D66 loses heavily, Omtzigt snatches seats from BBB

3 October 2021 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 11 comments

D66 has lost sharply in the last poll. If elections for the House of Representatives had now been held, Sigrid Kaag's party would have 17 seats. This is 7 less than now and another 2 less than in the elections of 2017. Pieter Omtzigt is immensely popular, while BoerBurgerBeweging remains at 7 seats in last week's poll.

This is evident from the poll Maurice the Dog organizes weekly. D66 had been losing for weeks, but last week there was another drop of 2 seats. This is undoubtedly related to Kaag's announcement to participate in negotiations for a new cabinet with the current coalition partners VVD, CDA and ChristenUnie. Compared to the parliamentary elections of last March, the VDD has won 2 seats and has reached 36 seats. The ChristenUnie is also on a plus of 2 and has 7 seats.

Dramatic fall CDA
However, the CDA continues to make a dramatic fall in the poll, reaching an all-time low of 5 seats. As a result, the traditional farmers' party loses 10 seats compared to the current number in the House of Representatives. Due to the loss of D66 and CDA, the four parties that are now starting to form a government have 65 seats in this poll. A loss of 13 from the election. Of the Dutch, 29% react positively to a cabinet of VVD, D66, CDA and ChristenUnie.

BoerBurgerBeweging has been in the poll for several weeks on a stable, yet solid profit† The party of leader Caroline van der Plas has 7 seats, a gain of 6 seats compared to the last parliamentary elections. This puts BBB on an equal footing with the ChristenUnie and the Party for the Animals and even above the Forum for Democracy and the CDA. (read more under overview)

Pieter Omzigt very popular
If Pieter Omtzigt decides to participate in the next parliamentary elections, he could cause a political earthquake. The former CDA prominent, now an independent MP, is not yet included in the polls. The reason for this is stated that Omtzigt has not yet indicated that he wishes to participate in the next elections with his own political party. If Omtzigt does, it could have unpleasant consequences for BoerBurgerBeweging.

A special poll in mid-September showed that Omtzigt can count on 25 seats in the House if he participates in the next elections with his own party. He takes this number of seats from a wide range of parties, including BBB. According to this poll, Van der Plas' party loses 4 seats to Omtzigt to get 3 seats in the House of Representatives, 2 more than now. Parties such as the VDD (-3), PVV (-4), SP (-3) and Party for the Animals (-2) also lose seats to Omtzigt.

This is in response to it Boerenbusiness article:

BBB has been sitting at 7 seats for some time, even after Omtzigt's re-entry. Then a headline like this? Is the author of this article old enough to vote?
If you want to be taken seriously as a platform, I would think about how you deliver news, and leave your own suggestive thoughts out of it, as it should be in (good) journalism

say Erik, maybe you should read the whole article before you react like this

Omtzicht has enough of its own, setting up and leading a party is far too much on his fork, so you can forget about that. Good for BBB if this continues.

It's Sunday, Erik was still a little sleepy. Also logical with the weather outside.

I care about the suggestiveness of the headline. From zero to 25 seats, and then name only one party in your head.

Placing a headline above an article hits the mark. Do not argue for or against but a headline above article should be done carefully without bias.

Is it so bad if BBB goes from 1 to 4 seats for example? If Omzigt comes to 25 seats in one go, then you know for sure that there will be a fight in the tent and it is definitely over and out.

This just goes to show how short-sighted we farmers are. If those farmers had looked at Omzigt's voting behavior, they would have seen that he almost always shows the same voting behavior as the CDA. BBB has a completely different course when it comes to voting in the 2nd chamber.

Erik, welcome as a new subscriber. Boerenbusines always has these kinds of headlines. The more often you read their articles, the harder it becomes to take them seriously.

I think so too, around here some also vote for CDa because there are certain people on the list but who then do not come into the room, now they complain that they should have voted BBB better, yes duh you can too think it over
