BoerenNL wants to make farmers' interests sound better

27 October 2021 - Klaas van der Horst - 3 comments

Livestock farmers and arable farmers from all over the country founded BoerenNL on Tuesday evening. This partnership should show politicians, advocates and other parties involved in agriculture, such as banks and valuers, the power of the farmer.

This is what Bertus Doppenberg, one of the co-founders of the group, says. BoerenNL is a self-managing organization, without a permanent board, member register or Chamber of Commerce registration. The club also does not want to compete with other agricultural organizations. Members of LTO, FDF, NMV, DDB, ZLTO as well as NAV and poultry farmers' organizations from all parts of the country were present at the inaugural meeting.

The farmer has the power
"We want to show that we are not going to be fooled and that decisions can be made about us without us. The late Wien van den Brink said: 'Farmers have power over their own future, but then they have to do something for it together' Doppenberg said.

BoerenNL only wants to express itself peacefully. It does want to show the power of the farmer, but it certainly does not want to be a 'goal gang'. "That's not our style." BoerenNL does want to put an end to the practice that administrators without a mandate decide on the future of farmers based on practice. "Then we come to visit," says Doppenberg.

BoerenenNL does not want forced expropriation and an agricultural and environmental policy based on measurements. Furthermore, as far as BoerenenNL is concerned, interest groups can simply do their thing, provided that the conditions of the farmers in the Netherlands are taken into account.

Dairy farmer René Staal explains the origin of BoerenNL.

And why does this club think it can speak for 'the farmers vsn the Netherlands'? All other clubs speak with the mandate of the members.
Contribution to even more division.
@Boerenbusiness, never heard of critical journalism?

No members, no board, no statutes? As of today, everyone can say that they speak on behalf of BoerNL?

I don't think anyone is aware of the "power" of this umpteenth new group. The only thing that would work is ONE party that speaks on behalf of all farmers, but that simply won't work because arable farmers have completely different interests than, for example, livestock farmers. Every sector has its own problems, arable farming just as much as livestock farming and greenhouse horticulture. Working together where possible and separately where necessary. An arable farmer should not want a cattle farmer to try to represent his interests and vice versa. If there is a shared interest, you can always work together as sectors. If the interests per sector have to be defended, there will probably again be a disagreement between organic and conventional, also two different interests. At the bottom of the line, the farmers do not agree and The Hague continues nicely...

Have to say that the name BoerNL tastes like more...

@Student, well written. Working together where possible and where the interests in each sector are conflicting, withhold yourself and respect the value of others. For example, if one moment the pig farmers hand over to the dairy farm and the next moment they (try to) move together, then neither of the two will appear credible. And so you lost both. Make sure that you as sectors are not pitted against each other and played out.
