ABZ Diervoeding and De Samen are joining forces. From next year, both feed cooperatives will continue under the new name ABZ De Cooperation.
In their own words, the two cooperatives fit in seamlessly with each other. The mission, vision and working method are the same, as are the interests of the members. The merger will create an annual production capacity of 700.000 tons of compound feed. About 150.000 tons of this will be contributed by De Collaboration, the rest comes from ABZ Diervoeding.
Challenging market conditions
The merger is prompted by the challenges that both companies face. This refers to the rapidly changing laws and regulations in our country and the political vision of livestock farming. Translated more concretely: animal numbers are under pressure, which poses a major challenge for compound feed companies in our country. It is especially difficult for companies that are not active abroad to maintain sales figures. Merging both co-ops will likely make these challenges more manageable. In recent years, both ABZ Animal Nutrition and the Collaboration were able to report growth and profit in a shrinking market.
The merger creates a well-spread geographical coverage. ABZ Diervoeding already has factories in the north (Stoobos), the center (Nijkerk), the east (Markelo) and the south (Eindhoven) of the country. The cattle feed factory in the west (Haastrecht) of De Samen will now be added to this. That factory will be modernized. The member councils of both cooperatives still have to vote on the merger in December.
