In recent days many questions have been raised regarding the big difference seen in the open position (OP) of the April 2017 contract.
While there were recently more than 6.000 contracts open (which means that compared to 6.000 buy positions, there are 6.000 sell positions), currently that number would appear according to the price screen. Boerenbusiness (BB) is not yet 3.832. So there would be a decrease in the OP of more than 2.000 contracts in just four weeks, while this was not reflected in the daily trading volume.
First of all, it can be stated that the OP as seen on the BB price screen (provided by an external supplier) is incorrect. An open position is built up through various depository banks such as Binck in the Netherlands or Nord LB from Germany, merged and delivered to the EEX stock exchange from where it is published. Apparently there is currently something going wrong with comparing the positions (buy/sell) and supplying the data accordingly. The estimate of the current OP from April 2017 is that it is approximately 5.500.
