Dividend Nedato growers again higher than the previous year

3 February 2017 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 16 comments

Potato wholesaler Nedato BV closed the 2015/16 financial year with a net result of 1.6 million euros. The total result is distributed to the shareholders.

Due to the better result, Nedato growers can look forward to a dividend of 142,50 euros per certificate this year. 'The result this year is slightly better than the year before. That has to do with the volumes that go through the company', explains Heero Gramsma. 'If we do that in a good and efficient way, it will yield results.'

Good starting situation for further investments in sales

The financial position of Nedato is good, reports the cooperative, which mainly realizes its turnover within Europe. The consolidated balance sheet shows that shareholders' equity on the balance sheet date amounts to 68 percent of the balance sheet total.

According to Nedato, this provides excellent payment security for the affiliated growers and is also a good starting point for further investments in potato sales.

'You always have to make sure that the company is up-to-date and meets the requirements. The financial situation must be such that you can come up with new products and if new machines are needed, you can invest in them. We will certainly do that.'

Neat, organization with a nice flat structure, which is really there for the members. Many other cooperatives could follow an example.

What strikes me in the polder is that many (without exceptions) the affiliated growers have little financial room to invest.

How could that be????????????

If you grow potatoes for Nedato, you at least have one less problem in your business operations

No tax problem

Henk and Kees, maybe they joined a safe haven for a reason because their financial space was already tight!
It just seems to me to be a solid party that just do their best to get the most out of it for the grower without any profit for themselves.

Ha, ha I've never seen Nedato at the top of the pole standings.

In my opinion, there is also a difference in an overview and years of supply. The outcome in difficult situations is sometimes worth more than at the top of a leaderboard. Placing a problem lot can also have value. No idea how they deal with that, but it's important. I don't know of any colleagues who have never experienced such a situation.

What happens to a rejected batch from a grower at a chip factory?
Nedato will look for a buyer for such a party in advance, so that rejection with a (much) lower price as a result is avoided!
This is sometimes worth more than often the highest price in a pool comparison and occasionally an unpleasant surprise.

What is the added value of a company like Nedato?
Can someone explain that to me?

If you do not dare or cannot act yourself, you can let a pool do it for you.
Is an average price you do not have the highest peaks or deepest troughs.

The problem at Nedato this year is that they have already promised a number of growers to reimburse 100% for plots of potatoes that only came out 20%.
They get an average HA price from the pool while they have not yet harvested 15 tons of potatoes
That, of course, has a huge impact on the pool price.
Indeed. Nedato is not always at the top of the lists, partly because their sales to industry are very narrow, they only have a few processors they supply to and that can certainly have a negative effect in lesser years.

They are the best in the very early table segment, there are growers who have received more than €40 for frieslanders.
It is often the same 15 growers who can deliver them very early and within the quality standards at Nedato

if the largest grower in the Netherlands cannot figure out what kind of grower the added value is, then I wonder how he/she has become the largest grower.
(Apparently that makes you very excited)
Joepic 5 February 2017
If you now use the argument that they can get away with lesser parties..... it says more about you as growers or where you are located. If you can't deliver consistent quality, you will never get the highest price!

You are the largest grower in the Netherlands;
- if you don't have to pay your seed.
- if you are being held up by the industry.
- if you harvest on demand.
- when everything is decided for you.
- ...
15 years ago Belgium also had a largest grower (1200ha), but that hurt FF more than the farmer himself.

And coincidentally, a large part of these 15 growers are also directors or ex-directors at Nedato. Speaking of a flat organization....
