Multi-year average

Russia allows selected Dutch seed potatoes

6 February 2017 - Clarisse van der Woude - 6 comments

The Netherlands can restart seed potato exports to Russia. At the end of last week, the Russians gave written confirmation of this.

The confirmation means that the samples examined by the Russian Plant Health Service were in order. 'That is reason for the Russians to make export possible,' says Jan Gottschall of the Dutch Potato Organization.

The export volume corresponds to what exporters have notified

The export volume corresponds to what exporters have registered. 'The list shows the volume that we have requested. The tonnage is the multi-year average.' The Noordoostpolder remains excluded from export.

Most of the seed potatoes will be shipped/loaded to Russia in early spring.

Good! Too few seed potatoes for the Netherlands, but at the same time selling seed potatoes in Russia.

at least there is no complaint afterwards and the selling price is higher.

Well, it's about time we started thinking about our own growers. Russians do exactly that. in a few years they will be completely self-sufficient thanks to the Dutch. Russia as a market will never come back for us.

Why on earth should seed potatoes go there while we are crying out for seed potatoes here?

The varieties that are suitable for fries will stay here, the varieties that go there cannot be baked into fries

you can use it to burn (moderate) vodka at best. There is always a lack of it in Russia

They know how to bring it nicely again, they pretend it's a few jute bags. And in the meantime they are already speculating about a late spring, of course, describing everything so beautifully that the price can be lower rather than higher. I hope that this is again 12.000 tons or more yippee, and not yet all planted yet.
