The Belgian-Dutch potato processor Agristo is increasingly presenting itself, as a mere supplier of potato specialties, as a cooperation partner with an advisory function towards the supermarkets.
In 6 years, the manufacturer's turnover grew from 125 to 325 million euros. Characteristic of this is that Agristo only supplies 'private label products' to supermarkets. This involves intensive cooperation. 'In addition to delivering the product, we also provide advice on trends, positioning, etc.', says director Filip Wallays. StoreCheck.
However, as the product portfolio continues to expand, Wallays is striving for an even closer collaboration. 'Perhaps that goes against the way supermarkets have worked until now. However, we notice an increasing openness in that area with them.'
According to him, further integration is also necessary, because these are natural products with a high volatility. 'Partly due to the relative unpredictability of the harvest. It is also a very capital-intensive sector. In order to provide all parties with the highest possible degree of certainty in the long term, there is no other way than to join forces even further.'
