Plant variety rights basic requirement

Interseed shareholder in Breeders Trust

23 March 2017 - Clarisse van der Woude

The German seed potato trading house and breeding company Interseed Potatoes in Wittmund became a shareholder of Breeders Trust this week.

Interseed is originally a German potato cultivation and seed potato company with offices in various European countries. The company's focus is on cultivating and cultivating new varieties for the potato processing industry. Wilhelm Meyer, managing director of Interseed: 'Developing a new variety takes a lot of effort and we consider maintaining plant breeders' rights as a basic requirement for all growers to be successful.'

Breeders Trust helps realize international ambitions

Meyer says Breeders Trust is helping them realize their international ambitions. 'Our core activity is developing and introducing the latest potato varieties around the world. Breeders Trust provides awareness and international enforcement and is therefore a logical next step for us. Joining forces and enforcing the respect of plant breeders' rights is therefore of crucial importance.

In November 2016, seed potato company STET Holland BV in Emmeloord acquired 10 percent of the Breeders Trust shares. The remaining shares are held by Agrico, Danespo, Europlant, Germicopa, HZPC, C. Meijer, Norika and Solana. Breeders Trust was established in 2008 to monitor the enforcement of plant breeders' rights.
