The cheap euro against the dollar seems to be hampering American exporters of finished products. Sales from America of the pre-fried and deep-frozen end product were disappointing in January and plunged into the red.
In January 2016, 77.500 tons of frozen end product were delivered. In January 2017 this was 70.000 tons. In total, the export figure of fresh, pre-fried and chips amounted to 240.000 tons, a decrease of 20.000 tons compared to January 2016.
The expensive dollar versus the euro is an important reason for the decline in sales. Although global sales from Europe are currently also slowing down somewhat, record after record has been broken in previous months.
For example, 133.000 tons of pre-baked product were exported from Europe in January. That is no less than 20.000 tons more than in January 2016. The twelve-month period therefore amounts to 1,4 million tons, almost 12 percent more than over the period February 2015 to January 2016.
The total export value of European end products, over the period February 2016 to January 2017, amounts to almost 1 billion euros.
