French fries producer Farm Frites is looking into building a new factory in Argentina. A spokesperson confirms this.
The company has had a factory in the middle of the city of Buenos Aires since the mid-90s. The new factory, which the group may want to build in the future, should be located in Mar del Plata. From the port, the end product can then be shipped to Brazil, the country that recently... anti dumping introduced measures for fries from Western Europe.
There is talk of 2.500 to 3.000 containers per year and an annual production capacity of 70.000 tons of finished product, a standard production if one line is in use. The Argentinians expect that the possible developments can boost potato cultivation and employment.
They do not yet know what Farm Frites will do with the old factory if the plans go ahead. The spokesperson emphasizes that the Argentine plans are still in the orientation phase. 'Every day we look at the possibilities for continued growth. The construction of our factory in China, which should be ready at the end of this year, is now consuming all our time and energy. We can only do one thing at a time.'
