The results of the DCA Potato Bingo of the 2016 harvest year have been announced. The last 'draw' took place on Tuesday 4 April 2017. The DCA Potato Bingo is played every year prior to the growing season. This determines the dates for the closing prices of the potato futures market. The bingo was played last year on April 1, 2016.
The last draw added an amount of 22,40 euros to the row of 9 draws in total. Last year, on April 12, potato bingo started at 14,50 euros. That was also the lowest level of all the draws. The highest draw was made in the period from week 44 to 49, Wednesday November 23, with a prize of 26,30 euros.
Average price
In total, a prize was drawn 4 times below the 20,00 euro level and 5 times above it. On average, potato bingo this year amounted to 20,32 euros. Although the physical potato season only has about 3 months to go, the question this year is whether potato bingo will win against the various potato pools.
Bingo ends up lower
Compared to the average closing prices of the April 2017 contract (period May 1, 2016 to April 4, 2017), potato bingo is lower this year. Namely at 20,32 euros against 21,10 (see graph).
Lustrum for bingo
Potato bingo celebrated its first anniversary in the 2016 harvest year, after the first DCA Potato Bingo was held in the 2007 harvest year. In recent years there have been two years in which the potato bingo was higher, namely 2 with 2012 euros and 22,26 with 2010 euros. The average over the past 21,30 years is 10 euros (see graph).
Bingo for the 2017 vintage
The dates for the draws for the 2017 harvest year pulled again. The first draw will be on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 and the last draw on Tuesday, April 3, 2018.
