Aviko expands production at 2 locations

June 14, 2017 - Clarisse van der Woude - 1 reaction

The global consumption of chips has been increasing for years. Aviko also sees positive market opportunities and is therefore investing in processing capacity, Aviko Potato reported on Wednesday 14 June when the pool price for the 2016 harvest was announced.

The major growth is mainly in Asia. There is an annual growth of 350.000 tons of end product. However, consumption is still increasing in Europe as well. To respond to this, Aviko is expanding the processing capacity at its production locations in Lomm, Limburg and Rain am Lech, Germany, with a total of 100.000 tons of end product.

Correct match between batch of potatoes and factory settings

Automatic sample line
To improve the yield of a batch of potatoes, Aviko Potato has invested in a fully automatic sample line. The growers take a representative sample during the harvest. These are assessed on the sample line in Dronten on underwater weight, size sorting, tuber length, external and internal quality and baking quality.

As a result, the exact processing quality of each batch of potatoes is known in advance, as well as the amount of chips that can be produced. In this way it is even better possible to make the right match between a batch of potatoes and the factory settings.
