Lowest overall figure in years

Export continues, but is not spectacular

June 17, 2017

As in the previous months, exports for the month of May were unspectacular. This year the export was 71.000 tons. Last May, the export figure was set at more than 91.000 tons.

The total figure (up to and including May) for the 2016 harvest year now amounts to 718.000 tons. That was still 743.000 tons in the same period a year earlier.

Lowest in years
Compared to previous years, the total figure for the 2016 harvest is the lowest in times. For example, the total figure for the harvest from 2014 to May 2015 was 723.000 tons. For the 2013 harvest, this amounted to 751.500 tons and for the 2012 harvest (England year) it was 927.000 tons.

Export where?
Traditionally, most exports went to Belgium (34.000 tons). The total figure to that country is now 349.000 tons. That is 26.000 tons more than last season. The export to Germany this season, in total up to and including May, is 40.500 tons less than last season. Then the figure came to 77.500 tons.

In total, 543.200 tons were exported within the EU up to and including May. That is 16.500 tons less than the total for the 2015 harvest. Total sales to further destinations, such as Mali and Mauritania, were also 102.000 tons less this season. Last season it was still 117.000 tons.

Imports of potatoes
A lot of potatoes were imported in the month of May, with almost 133.000 tons. In 2016 that was still 92.000 tons. This was already reflected in the processing figures about may. This showed that 39 percent of the total processed volume comes from imports.
