In the image below, the current situation with regard to the potato market and possible price development is indicated by means of indications, by the different colored arrows and red circle.

Yellow arrow:
Early table potatoes are available from Southern Europe. The yield is good there. The market for table potatoes in Northern Europe has been very moderate for some time now. The market in Southern Europe is also on the brink.

Green arrow:
The growing areas in Germany have generally had sufficient water. In Berlin and the surrounding area even more than 26 mm fell at the end of week 200! The development of the main crop crops, for example in the largest potato state of Lower Saxony, appears to be good. The start of the early Premiere harvest in Germany will start shortly and looks average.

Dark red arrow:
England has an area expansion of approximately 4%. Furthermore, the crops currently have sufficient moisture and are in good condition. Table potatoes are currently offered on the mainland from England. The transport costs and low prices make it difficult to trade for the time being.

Currently, the conditions for growth are ideal

Orange arrow:
The Netherlands has had sufficient rainfall above the major rivers. Due to the current dark weather, in combination with the precipitation, the conditions are currently ideal for the growth of potatoes.

Red circle:
At least, at the end of week 26, there are still very dry conditions in the cultivation areas in the southwest of the Netherlands, Belgium and the north of France. In Belgium, according to reports, only 20% of the acreage can be irrigated for potatoes. In France that would be half. For the main crop, especially for a variety like Fontane, not much is lost when rain falls in mid-July. An average harvest is then achievable. The fact is that significant rain will have to fall in the coming weeks, otherwise it will be an exciting affair for the growers in the aforementioned areas.

Conclusion:
If growing conditions remain as they are now in Europe's main growing areas, there could be some tightness in the main crop. During the season, a transport movement will start to move potatoes from the good areas to the areas with scarcity.
