Countus Agriculture Index

The arable index rate bounces slightly

17 July 2017 - Clarisse van der Woude

The downward turn that started in May ended in mid-June. Although the Countus Arable Farming Index still falls below the 0 measurement, the price manages to maintain itself around 80 points.

However, that does not mean that the weakness has disappeared from the index. This is partly due to the low onion price, which has only been hovering just above the €0 level in recent weeks. Incidentally, the onion price in the last June week is no longer included, because the old onion season is almost over. There is also little movement in the price of European fodder wheat. The price trend is still flat. A ton of wheat has a price of €178 to €179.

There is more tension in the potato market where the futures market rose from €15 at the beginning of June to €20 plus on June 19. After that, however, the market entered a downward trend with prices between €15 and €17.

The declining price of seed potatoes was turned into a slight climb in June. In the second week of June, the quotation was €32 per 100 kilos, at the end of July that rose to €38. In this way, seed potatoes, as the only product in the index, the number of points is positive.
