Potato wholesaler Eriva from Zeewolde and the PPA Group, based in Middelharnis, have joined forces. Together they founded PPA Potato, with the intention of bringing the pool activities into that company from harvest 2018.
After 27 years of running a successful potato pool as a single-player, founder Sjaak Ermers now opts for collaboration. With effect from harvest 2018, the potato pool of Eriva will be merged into the pool of ., which started at the end of 2016. PPA Potato† "The reason for this is that I want to continue to offer security to my relations. I am too vulnerable on my own and I want to remain a reliable partner for growers and buyers. started the new company last year," Ermers explains his decision.
Half of the shares
Both parties are each half shareholder of the new company PPA Potato. "We know each other well from the past and therefore know what we can do with each other. From 1995 to 2001 I was a participant in Agramed, the predecessor of the current onion pool of PPA." In addition to co-pool manager, Ermers will also be responsible for the financial and administrative settlement of the pool.
Logical move
For the 2017 harvest, Ermers will continue the Erivapool in the current manner. In addition, as co-pool manager, he fulfills an advisory role in the PPA potato pool. The intention is to have the potato activities of Eriva with PPA Potato, including the independent pool. "The plan is that after the merger I will remain involved as director/shareholder in the day-to-day business of PPA Potato and also in the sale of polar potatoes. For many years, that is the intention."
Growers react positively. "I often hear that they think it's a logical move and compliment us on the choice for shared responsibility. But it will also take some getting used to, especially for myself."
